THIS week's ultra special 'leap year' edition of The Scottish Farmer was brought to you courtesy of student journalist, Tara Brisbane!

The Robert Gordon University student won the right to be 'Editor for a Week' via the Scottish Association of Young Farmers, who nominated her for the role. A farmer's daughter from Blair Drummond, Tara is a member of Callander YFC and in the second year of a four year course in journalism.

It was a busy week for her, getting to grips with publishing systems, attending the QMS 'MEAT: The Future' conference, in Glasgow and shadowing Kathryn Dick on a 'Women in Agriculture' feature interview. She also wrote our Leader column.

She seemed to learn a lot: "I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here at The Scottish Farmer. I have learnt a lot about agricultural journalism from how they get their stories and news to how the paper is put together before printing," she said.

"I had the honour of attending the QMS conference with editor, Ken Fletcher, on Wednesday, where they discussed the future for red meat. I also accompanied Kathryn Dick on a feature interview for the women in agriculture section – this was very informative and interesting to find out about how other occupations can be part of the industry and the many opportunities there are.

"I would like to thank everyone at The Scottish Farmer and SAYFC for giving me this opportunity to get experience within an industry that I am part of and hopefully work within in the future."
