SCOTTISH BUTCHERS have come together to support their local communities in an effort to limit the spread of Covid-19.

With Prime Minister Boris Johnson announcing that individuals should practice social distancing, members of the Scottish Craft Butchers and Quality Meat Scotland’s Scotch Butchers Club are providing customers with deliveries of locally-sourced Scotch Beef PGI, Scotch Lamb PGI and Specially Selected Pork.

As well as offering door-to-door drop offs, many butchers are providing a free-of-charge delivery service to elderly people and those in retirement homes who are unable to leave their homes.

Every Briton over the age of 70 is expected to be told within the coming weeks to stay at home for an extended period to protect themselves from coronavirus.

All products from butchers within the club are prepared in the strictest hygienic conditions, with meat sourced from trusted Scottish farms that follow the highest quality production standards and cut fresh to order and packaged safely in store.

Customers are still being welcomed in-store, with additional hygiene methods such as the provision of hand sanitiser dispensers being installed, contactless payments, and shops undergoing regular deep cleans.

Executive manager of Scottish Craft Butchers, Gordon King, said: “In light of these uncertain times, our members understand the responsibility they hold in providing a trusted and reliable service to local communities.

“We understand that we must adapt with the situation, and so home delivery options, as well as new pick-up services from shops, provide customers with different options to receive products depending on their individual circumstances," he continued.

“These are testing times, and we want to do all we can to provide people with the reassurance that we’re here to support them.”

Chair of QMS’s Scotch Butchers Club and owner of Macbeth’s Butchers in Forres, Jock Gibson, said: “Butchers are at the heart of Scotland’s communities and are totally committed to helping vulnerable members of the public during what is undoubtedly a worrying time.

“The provision of delivery services means customers are able to easily receive high quality Scotch Beef PGI, Scotch Lamb PGI and Specially Selected Pork from their trusted local butchers – providing people with the peace of mind that is so important during these times," he assured.

“We’re encouraging anyone cooking with these ingredients to head to the Scotch Kitchen website for a range of healthy, balanced and delicious recipes,” he concluded.
