POTATOES IN Practice, which was due to take place this August, has been cancelled.
Ahead of the event, considerable work goes into planting demonstration plots, to be showcased on the day – but due to issues around availability of labour and movement restrictions as a result of the current Covid-19 outbreak, the organiser, the James Hutton Institute, has made the decision to call for an early cancellation.
The Hutton believes this will allow those in agriculture to focus their resources, abilities and attention on the most pressing matters, pointing to prioritising primary agricultural production and keeping the population safe.
As the UK’s largest field event for potatoes, PiP's cancellation will be considered a real loss to the sector in terms of seeing what’s new, networking with colleagues and contacts and catching up with friends in the trade.
But a date has already been booked in next year's diary – Thursday, August 12 is pencilled in for Potatoes in Practice 2021, at Balruddery Farm, Angus.
