Emergency services raced to the River Clyde after an unidentified item was spotted near Bothwell Bridge.
A thorough search of the water was carried out after the alert was received at 10.50am, but nothing was found.
However, traffic was severely disrupted during the search leading to delays for drivers.
Rescue boats were also at the scene.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "We received a report of an unidentified item in the river under Bothwell Bridge at around 10:50am.
"A thorough search was carried out by officers and Scottish Fire and Rescue with nothing of significance found. The search has been stood down."
