Allister Dempster, fondly known to many as Bud, retired last Friday after almost 55 years devoting his time to Waterside Mains dairy farm as a tractorman.
Leaving school at 15, Bud started working for M Young and Sons at Waterside Mains in Thornhill in January 1966.
He never left and turns 70 this December. Bud is pictured here with his first tractor, The Fergusson 35x, which is still used regularly and feeds a shed of 120 youngstock every winter. Over the last two years he has spent his working days in the Claas Arion 430 which, he admitted, has been a bit more comfortable.
