Prices peaked at 3200gns at the production sale of the Boothmans’ Halton pedigree Hereford herd from Home Farm, Halton East, at Skipton Auction Mart.
The sale which was made up of 45 head –11 cows with calves at foot, four heifers with calves, 11 maiden heifers, two in-calf heifers and a brace of bulls – was led by the four-year-old, Halton 1 Dora, an AI daughter of Solpoll 1 Ferrari. She is bred from the Coley 1 Josh-sired female, Halton 1 Amber, and sold with her December 2020-born heifer calf, Halton 1 Georgia, a daughter of Hoghton View 1 Cameron, to P Tindale, of Haltwhistle, Northumberland.
Two cow and calf outfits made 2800gns with the first being the April 2016-born Halton 1 Clara, also by Coley 1 Josh, with March-born Cameron heifer calf, Halton 1 Clara H1. The buyer was Brian Barrett, of Sowerby, Halifax.
Also hitting 2800gns was Redshaw 1 Silver 4, a five-year-old cow bred by Martin Coates, of Widdale, Hawes. The Romany 1 Lighting Bolt daughter and her April-born Cameron heifer calf, Halton 1 Silver H4, was purchased by John Bell, who trades as CB Farms Ltd in Newton-le-Willows.
Heifers with calves peaked at 2500gns, for Halton 1 Foxglove, a March 2019-born daughter of Barwick 1 Iggy, and her May-born Coley I Sullivan bull calf, Halton 1 Harry. Stuart and Janet Fisher, of Southwaite, Carlisle, forked out the cash.
Averages: Cows with calves, £2429.31; heifers and calves £2283.75; in-calf heifers £2152; maiden heifers £1789.77.
