A mixed show for quality saw 1105 lambs average 236p per kg with a top price of £121 paid for Texels from James McHarrie, Duchra, with Beltex from P Hunter Blair, Nether Cleugh, topping the pence per kg at 262.2p.

Cast sheep were topped at £155 for a pair of Texel ewes from Bridgehouse Farming Co., while Beltex from G Westby, West Glenstockadale, led the rams at £140.

Penrith

Penrith and District Farmers Marts' sale, saw TF and GL Pollock, Wreay Hall Farm, sell the top priced lambs per head at £146 for 51kg Texel crosses, while 39kg Beltex from RG Todd, Crosby Hall, sold for the lead price per kg of 318p. Lambs averaged 252p.

Texel crosses topped the cast ewe trade at £198 for D and R Cornthwaite, Balgray Hill, Lockerbie.

Prime bullocks sold to £1687.80 and 242p for a 696kg red Limousin from D Raine, Old Parks, whilst heifers attained 228.5p and £1494.39 for another of the same from Old Parks.

A nine-year-old British Blue cross Limousin cows from HG Jackson, Littlebeck, topped the 48 OTM's, at £1413.67 or 189.5p per kg.

Wooler

Some 1353 lambs sold to average 247p per kg at Harrison and Hetherington's sale which sold to £142 and 323p for 44.5kg Beltex from C Mellor, Annstead.

The 259 cast sheep peaked at £140 twice for Texels from Edlingham Newtown.

Forfar

Limousins took the top prices at Lawrie and Symington's sale where bullocks sold to 251p and £1631.50 for a 650kg entry from Nethermyres, to average 249p.

Heifers levelled at 264p and reaching 280p and £1652 for a 590kg Limousin from Gask.

The 475 prime lambs peaked at 275p per kg for a 45kg Texel from Grange of Conon and to £129 for 48kg Texels from Meikle Tullo, to balance out at 227p with an SQQ of 225p.

Texel ewes from West Pitcorthie led the cast sheep at £139, whilst rams peaked at £110 for Cheviots from Ashmore and Strone Ltd.

Huntly

Blue Texel attracted the lead price of 277p per kg and £130 for 47kg entries from Inchford, Cornhill, att United Auctions' sale of 624 lambs which averaged 214.2p overall.

Cast ewes levelled at £94.48 having peaked at £178 for a Charollais from Logie Durno, Pitcaple.

Stirling (Cale)

Bullocks and heifers levelled at 242p and 247p respectively at Caledonian Marts' sale, with the former selling to 260p for a Limousin from Meadowend and to £1635 for another of the same from Learielaw, Broxburn.

Heifers sold to 265p on two occasions for a Limousin from Learielaw and Meadowend and to £1506 for a Limousin from Meadowend, Clackmannan.

Young bulls peaked at 215p and £1570 for a Limousin from Mains of Throsk, while OTM's averaged 153p having sold to 177p for a Limousin from Mains of Throsk, Throsk and to £1580 for a Blonde from Lochhead, East Wemyss.

Dairy cattle reached 143p from Ardgate, Gartocharn and to £1050 from Wharlawhill, Fossoway, to cash in at 116p.

On Tuesday, the 1938 lambs levelled at 233p, having sold to 286.6p for 45kg Beltex from A McAllister, Blairmore, Balfron or £140 for a 58kg Texel from D Thomson, North East Holehouse, Avonbridge.

Cast sheep peaked at £134 for a Bluefaced Leicester from Malling.

Stirling UA

United Auctions sold 5992 prime sheep comprising of 3220 lambs which averaged 235.62p and sold to £131 for Texels from Langside, and to 272p per kg for more of the same from Crofthead.

The Scottish Texel Club's show judged by Murray Hardy, saw the champion pen of 10 from AC and DR Henderson, Faulds, later realise £122. The reserve from the Firm of JS Shaw, West Lethans, were knocked down to £118.

Cast ewes peaked at £188 for Suffolks from Kincraigie, while tups made £200 for more of the same from Langside.

Thainstone

Aberdeen and Northern Marts' sale saw bullocks average 240p having sold to 259p for a Limousin cross from Whiteside and to £1631.25 for another of the same from New Mains.

Prime heifers balanced out at 228.9p, peaking at 265p and £1602.65 for Limousins from Crichie.

Beef finished cows cashed in at £1358.85 and attained £1690 for a 946kg Charolais from Mormond Prop, New Pitsligo, while feeding types reached £1245 for a 668kg Simmental cross from Colligarth, Sanday, to average £1083.68.

The 945 lambs averaged 228.6p, selling to 306.8p per kg for 44kg pure Beltex and £161 for 59kg pure Beltex both from Burnside Croft, Lethenty.

Feeding sheep levelled at £89.93, peaking at £197 for a Texel ewe from Milltown of Birness, Ellon.

Longtown

Some 3420 lambs forward for C and D Auction Marts' sale averaged 247.1p with an SQQ of 247.2p.

The sale was topped at 302p and £158 for Texels from A and H McColm, Crailloch, Newton Stewart.

The 4619 ewes sold to £200 for Texels from Kedzlie Farms, Galashiels and from A and H McColm, Crailloch, while tups peaked at £185 for Suffolks from R King and Sons, Gospel Hall, Jedburgh.

Lanark

Limousins led the prime cattle sale at Lawrie and Symington's sale where heifers sold to 274p and £1925 for an entry from Messrs Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie.

Bullocks sold to 262p for a similar animal from Messrs Gray, Balquharrage, Lennoxtown or to £1515 for another of the same from Messrs Allison, Muirburn, Skirling.

Cast cattle peaked at £1610 and 187p from Nether Abington, Abington, while dairy types were topped at £1125 from Broadfield Farming, Symington or to 155p from Dykeneuk Farming.

Top price amongst the 3422 lambs was £146 paid for Texels from Messrs Clark, Blackhill or 302p for Texels from Messrs Wilkins, Wester Whitecastle. The sale averaged 237.5p with an SQQ of 238p.

The 1854 cast sheep reached £196 for a Texel ewe from Baillie and Co, Sebay, Orkney, with tups to £160 for a Texel from Yeldabrek.

St Boswells

Harrison and Hetherington's sale witnessed bullocks (10) and heifers (30) average 248p and 254p respectively, with the former selling to £1536.90 from Faughhill and 264p per kg from Lurdenlaw.

Heifers made £1580.64 from Bee Edge and 273p from Upper Nisbet.

Prime lambs were led by Texels from The Knock at £155 or to 297.7p per kg for Beltex from Lylestane, to balance out at 242p, while AJE Calder of Bogend, led the cast sheep with a pair of Texel tups making £167. Ewes sold to £145 for Texels from DJ Texels.

Ayr

Craig Wilson's sale of 2528 prime lambs cashed in at 237.4p and was topped at £130 on two occasions – for Texels from AH Fisher, Merrick and for Suffolks from JM Nisbet, Sorn Mains – or to 273.8p per kg for Beltex from Tormitchell.

A top price of £192 was paid among the cast ewes for a Texel from W Stevenson and Son, Auchenflower, while tups reached £112 for Suffolks from Ardoch.

On Tuesday, the 181 prime cattle forward saw heifers average 246.6p, reaching 267p for a home-bred Charolais cross from the Young family, Girvan Mains.

Bullocks levelled at 259.2p and peaked at 255p and £1708.50 for a Charolais from North Boig, while young bulls made 229p for a Limousin from Giffordland or £1369.90 for an Aberdeen Angus from Bardrain.

Carlisle

Harrison and Hetherington's sale bullocks sell to £1904 and 270.5p per kg for a Limousin from Hoddamtown.

Heifers peaked at £1756 for a Limousin from Mirkbooths or to 287.5p for another of the same from Elm House.

The 334 cast cows was topped by a Limousin at £1914 or 244.5p from Brae of Coynach.

Prime lambs averaged 244p per kg with the 3068 head selling to £188 for Beltex from £152 Osborne Farm and 400p for more of the same from Allerby Hall.

Cast ewes reached £158 for Texels from High House.

Dingwall

Prime cattle at Dingwall and Highland Marts' sale saw bullocks average 234.5p having sold to 243p for a 530kg Limousin cross from Wester Muckernich, Tore and £1575.50 for a 685kg Charolais cross from Shoreton Farm, Culbokie.

Heifers balanced out at 241.4p having attained 253p for a 540kg Limousin cross from Ashley, North Kessock and £1621.40 for a 670kg Charolais cross from Shoreton Farm, Culbokie.

Lambs (579) cashed in at 216.6p, having sold to 244.2p and £116 for 47.5kg Beltex crosses from Greenlands, Arabella, whilst feeding sheep sold to £175 for a Beltex ewe from 25 Camult Muir, Kiltarlity.

Castle Douglas

On Tuesday, Wallets Marts had forward 1296 prime lambs that sold to average 240.64p with an SQQ of 241.79p per kg.

Top price per head was £126.50 on two occasions – for Beltex from Messrs Smith, Barmurrie and Texels from Lucy and Annie Barbour, Little Milton Farm. Top price per kg was 296.2p for Beltex again from Barmurrie.

The 649 cast sheep sold to £175 for Texels from Cogarth.

Wigton

Hopes Auctioneers' weekly sale saw heifers sell to £1741.68 and 265.5p for a 656kg 28-month-old Aberdeen Angus from BW Hewitson, Shatton Lodge Farm, Cockermouth.

Prime lambs (911) cashed in at 262.65p, peaking at £178 and 363.3p for a 49kg Beltex from Messrs Dent, Elm House, Bolton, while 135 cast ewes reached £145 for a Texel from Keith Hodgson, Prospect House, Pelutho.
