Cothi Fluke, secured both the pre-sale champion and top price of 4100gns for Dafydd Lewis at the Welsh Beltex Club’s Welsh Premier Sale at Welshpool Livestock Market.

The shearling ram from Dafydd, Cwrtycadno, Llanwrda, sold to commercial producer, TA Jefferson, Aspatria, Wigton, Cumbria. He is a son of Matt’s Everard, and out of the Airyolland Slingshot daughter, Cothi Double-trouble. The pen of ten averaged £1610, also reaching 2600gns, 2500gns and 1700gns for three shearlings by the home-bred Cothi Doctor sire.

The 2600gns shearling sold to B Blandford and Sons, Eastnor, Ledbury, whilst DL Jones, Llanbadarn Fynydd, Llandrindod Wells, forked out 2500gns for Cothi Frontpag.

The Jones family’s Glan-Y-Mor flock, Ynys, Talsarnau, Gwynedd, also had a field day with males reaching 3600gns and gimmers topping the female entry at 2200gns. Sticking with the males and selling to James Whiteford, Tercrosset, Brampton, Carlisle, was Glan-Y-Mor Ford, a son of the imported Alligator ram, and out of Glan-Y-Mor Coco, a Woodies Ringleader daughter.

Among the females it was Glan-Y-Mor Flamingo that found a new home with Tecwyn Jones for his Seisiog flock near Nebo, Llanrwst, Gwynedd. Another by the same sire, she is out of Glan-Y-Mor Blueberry, which goes back to Cromwell Warrior.

Steve and Sara Gibbons’ Whatmore Firework ET from Tregoyd, Brecon, was next in the trade stakes at 3500gns when selling their best to Messrs Pilkington. Bred from Edenfauld Well Connected, this lad’s sire is Llwynbrain Nelson.

Closely followed at 2500gns was Cennydd Owen’s Geirn Frosty which was snapped up by an undisclosed buyer from North Wales. His pedigree features Corra Conrad on to the Bishops TV-sired Cerin Winnifred from the flock at Carmel, Llanerchymedd, Anglesey.

Ram lambs met a selective trade, selling to a top of 670gns for Hackney Guiness ET from the Tippetts and Williams team from Shifnal, Shropshire. Sired by Collessie Flash and out of the Topflite Al Pacino daughter, Hackney Coco, he sold to G Davies, Llandewi Brevi, Tregarron.

Females also sold to 1400gns for the female champion Hackney Flora ET from the same home. She is sired by the 65,000gns record holder, Airyolland Castro, out of Hackney Daisy Duke, and sold to Brian Joseph for his Waen flock near Church Stretton, Shropshire.
