Averages were up on the year at Craig Wilson's sale of 3945 sheep, with Blackface lambs cashing in at £88.40 (+£14.35 on the year), whilst Mule gimmers and ewe lambs balanced out at £187 (+£6) and £130 (+£23) respectively.

It was however Texel gimmers that topped the trade at £350 on two occasions, firstly for a gimmer from Messrs McPhee, North Lodge, and again for a pen of three from Messrs Andrew Paton and Co, Craig Farm.

Mule gimmers peaked at £228 for Messrs Alexander Hunter, Laigh Langcraig, whilst ewe lambs reached £150 for Firm of Jack Ireland, Pennyvenie.

Blackface lambs sold to £110 for a pen of 10 from JW Kay and Son, Sclenteugh.

Longtown

The annual sale of lowland breeding sheep staged at C and D Auction Marts' saw trade peak at £320 for four Beltex cross Charollais gimmers from R and M Paterson, Upper Auchenlay.

Also included in the sale was two dispersals from Messrs Taylor, Dashwell Green, and Messrs Squair, Lower Killernie. Firstly the Dashwell Green dispersal sold to £380 for tups and to £220 for two shear Texel ewes, with the whole run averaging £178.

Also meeting a high demand was the Lower Killernie run with Texel and Beltex gimmers selling to £210, and Beltex tups hitting £580 on two occasions.
