A new record price for a male sheepdog was achieved at Dolgellau Auction Mart's timed online sale when Ricky Hutchinson's Jo from Littledale, Lancaster, sold for £23,600.

The sale of 187 working sheepdogs and pups saw trained entries average £4745 with clearance rate of more than 80%.

Top seller, Jo, a March 2019-born dog, is bred from Alan Wyn Jones' Bob and Lil, a mating which has produced some noted progeny in each litter. Jo, which has already won on open trial and gained 15 national points, sold across The Pond to L Thelan, Oklahoma, USA.

Second top price was £12,800 paid for Ross Games' Tess from Cefn Coed, Merthyr, purchased by an undisclosed buyer from Cumbria. This similarly aged black and white bitch is by Ross Games' Roy and is a grand-daughter of Ricky Hutchinson's Sweep.

Other trained dogs in the money included D Davies' Preseli Tim from Crymych, a 19-month-old son of Defaidty Bog, out of Groesfaen Jet which made £7800 and Sion Jones, Cefneithin, Corwen sold Bodtegir Jan, a 20-month-old bitch, for £7300. Both were bought by Devon-based enthusiasts.

Sion Jones also sold the lead priced pups at £8100 to P Kruger, Germany. This was the 4.5month-old bitch, Cefneithin Jan bred from Kevin Evans' Red Spot.

Son Dico Jones and daughter, Ela Von Jones, also had plenty to celebrate selling the dog pup, Cefneithin Jock for £3750 and Cefneithin Mist for £3000, respectively.

Part-trained dogs sold to £4700 for Groesfaen Jess from A Owen, Corwen.
