Prices peaked at 10,000gns with a further 21 lots selling for more than £3000, at Kevin and Christine Wilson and family's Warnelview Holstein production sale at Borderway Mart, Carlisle.

One of the best in the UK, the herd from Wood Farm, Thursby, boasts 110 Excellent cows and 123 Very Goods with 106 VG milking heifers, with the sale topped by Silvio daughter from the Ruby cow family that traces back to the Ex94 Warnelview Goldwyn Ruby – a former No 1 PLI cow and the dam of several sons and grandsons going to stud.

Warnelview Silvio Ruby 2, a Very Good 87-classified heifer that calved at the end of July, is bred from an Ex94 Saloon with 5%BF and 3.6%P, sold to Cyril and Martin Millar from Northern Ireland.

The Ruby family led the trade with Warnelview Challenger Ruby, making 8000gns to the Willsbro Holstein herd in Devon, who also bought her month-old King Doc heifer calf at 1500gns. Challenger Ruby is by Sandy-Valley Challenger with the first five dams all high scoring Ex cows. Warnelview Goldwyn Ruby Ex94 was her grand-dam, while her brother, Warnelview Rivet sold at last year’s Border and Lakeland Autumn bull sale for 5500gns.

Paul Dunn and Geoff Patton, Northern Ireland, went to 4200gns for Warnelview Pharo Ruby. She is by Sandy-Valley Pharo and is a potential seventh generation high scoring Ex cow from the Ruby family. Her brother, Warnelview Randal made 4200gns at this years Border and Lakeland Spring bull sale and her heifer calf by Calynook Duplo made 2500gns selling to Matt Fisher of the Whispering Springs Holstein herd in Penrith.

Herd icon, Warnelview Final Cut Nita, a Ex97 cow with 144t of milk already produced, had two daughters sell by Unix with both classified 87 points. Warnelview Unix Nita 3 made 5200gns and Warnelview Unix Nita 6 realised 5300gns, with both purchased by Cyril and Martin Millar.

These two heifers also had heifer calves following with the Jones daughter from Nita 3 selling for 3600gns to Messrs Coppinger, Ballinaslow in Ireland and a Crushabull daughter from Nita 6 selling for 3400gns to the Gillespie family, Ploughlands Farm near Wigton.

Warnelview Final Cut Nita’s grand daughter by Sidekick made 8000gns to Jason Booth in Northern Ireland. This VG87 fresh young heifer was bred from the highest classified daughter of Nita, an Ex94 Seaver daughter. Her June 2021-born daughter by Duplo made 3100gns to Messrs Roberts in Yorkshire.

Heifer calves were topped at 4200gns to average £912 for 92. Topping this section was the nine-month-old Warnelview Silvio Ruby 6 bred from the Ex92 Warnelview Ruby Iota, which is one of the best bull dams in the herd, followed by the well-known Goldwyn Ruby Ex94. She was purchased by Hodgson family owners of the Wormanby Holstein herd from Carlisle.
