Some 624 Suffolk, Texel, Beltex, Charollais and continental breeding rams were forward for Penrith and District Farmers’ Mart sale at Penrith, which sold to £1700.

Sale leader was a pure Beltex shearling, from W Gribbon and Co, Waterside, Dumfries, sold to Messrs Boyd.

The champion Beltex from Brian Hall, Ainstable Hall, made £1400 to T Airey, Dearham.

Mr Airey also bought the top priced Texel shearling at £1200 from Giles Pyman, Park View

Messrs Wales, Thackwood, Raughton Head sold 18 shearlings to average £809.44, with a top price of £1080 paid for a Charollais cross Beltex, purchased by Messrs Lyle, Staingills.
