Cheviot gimmers were the star of the show at Craig Wilson's sale of 3495 sheep, when selling to £200 for T Blackhurst, Bynehill.

Blackface ewes reached to £128 from Lagafater Farms, Barvannoch, whilst gimmers of the same breed sold to £190 for John McWhirter and Co, Linfairn.

Mule gimmers for S Rorison, Dallowie, also made £190 whilst Mule ewe lambs peaked at £105 for Jane ML Seaton, Knockewart.

A record NEMSA lamb average of £136.87 was achieved at Harrison and Hetherington's sale, with the Latter Fair Mule gimmers cashing in at £131.01.

Bentham

Averages were up on the year at Bentham Auction Marts' sale of 11,047 North of England Mules, when cashing in at £131.67, up £18.78.

Topping the sale at £580 was the champion pen from WM Hutchinson and Son's Redgate flock.

Cheviot Mules reached £205 for the first prize lambs from SR and PA Thompson of Sedbergh, which averaged £143.39 (+£14.66 on the year).

Hexham

The show and sale of 2409 Mule gimmers through Hexham and Northern Marts saw a top price of £230 paid for entries from FS Vickers, Rennington South Farm, Alnwick and J Charlton Tenter House, West Woodburn.

Suffolk crosses peaked at £234 for FT Walton, Flotterton, whilst Beltex cross gimmers from W Patterson and Sons, Halton Red House, reached £235.

Also included was the dispersal from FM Suddes and Son, China Hall, which was topped at £200 for a Texel ewe.

Quoybrae

Breeding rams from the Campbell family's Bardnaclavan flock from Thurso, continued on their winning ways at Aberdeen and Northern Marts' multi-breed ram sale at Caithness, when selling the lead priced lot at £1500.

The flock which had dominated much of the North Country Cheviot sale on the Friday (see page ??? ) led this second sale with the reserve champion Texel, purchased by MG and A Shearer, Lythmore, Bridge of Westfield, Thurso.

Just behind on £1400 was another Texel shearling from Stainland and Sibmister Farms, Thurso, purchased by W and G Coghill, Balnahard, Harpsdale

Matching that £1400 sale was the Suffolk champion, a shearling from W Barnetson and Sons, Lynegar, which sold to the judge, Ronald Innes, Stirkoke Mains, Wick, who also bought his choice of reserve, a shearling ram from JB and L Swanson, East Murkle, Thurso, for £1350.

The champion Texel, a shearling from A Gunn, Hill of Forss, Thurso, made £1050 to the breed judge, Jim Macgregor, Latheron Mains

Any other breed champion was a Suffolk cross Dorset shearling from D Webster, Lower Reiss, Wick, which made £900, with the reserve, a Suffolk cross Texel shearling from Stainland and Sibmister Farms, Thurso, selling for £1100.

Overall, 45 Suffolk shearlings averaged £639.55, against £636.36 for 33 last year and 63 Texel shearlings cashed in at £638.09 compared to £547.05 for 61 in 2020.

The annual Kintyre sheep sale at Campbeltown staged by C and D Auction Marts, saw a centre record when a Suffolk shearling realised £1100 for Thomas Cameron, Gartvaigh, Southend, who also sold another at £1000.

Beltex cross shearling rams were topped at £950 from R and J Lines, Killocraw, Bellochantuy, and J and M Turner, Kildalloig, led the Bluefaced Leicesters at £700.

The 580 breeding and store sheep also saw a new high when a pen of 15 Scotch Mule gimmers from P McKerral, Island View, Bellochantuy, sold for £260.

The annual multi-breed ram sale staged through Wallets Marts saw 198 shearling and lambs sell to £1050 for a Texel shearling from Rascarrel, Auchencairn.

Ram lambs reached £780 twice for Texels – from Messrs Smith, Low Arkland, and Messrs Hasting, Kilncroft.

On Monday, the firm's sale of 823 breeding sheep, were topped at £152 by Mule ewe lambs from Messrs Carruther, Silloans, with the 790 cashing in at £117.90 (+£11.57).

Texel ewe lambs attained £132 from Messrs Black, Hillside, with breeding ewes selling to £92 from Garroch Estate.
