Longtown

More than 10,000 head were forward for C and D Auction Marts’ annual Border ewe sale, where trade was topped at £360 for five South Country Cheviots from B Cockburn, Stirkfield, Lanarkshire.

Southie gimmers sold to £245 from M Little, Douglas Terrace, Langholm, whilst ewe lambs sold to £200 from T Aitchison, North Shortcleugh, Elvanfoot.

The dispersal from Messrs Douglas, Carlenrigg, Teviothead, sold to £130.

Ewe lambs from G Davies and Partners, North Synton, Ashkirk, led the North Country Cheviots at £310, whilst gimmers attained £280 for WD Allen, Humbleheugh, Alnwick, and ewes sold to £200 from GA Oliver, Elsdonburn, Wooler.

An increased entry of more than 3900 Blackface ewes, gimmers and ewe lambs sold to £265 for gimmers from Wanwood Partners, Wanwood Hill, Alston, who also topped the ewe lambs at £135. Ewes peaked at £138 from James Tullie, Bowanhill, Teviothead.

Some 54 rams and 242 females were forward for the Autumn Easycare breed sale through Harrison and Hetherington, which saw rams average £322.78 and females at £109.29.

Top price was 1900gns paid for shearling ram from Richard Owen, Trefri, Bodorgan, Anglesey.

Females sold to £165 for WE Cook, Bourne End, Wooton, Bedfordshire, with others making £145 for Robin Waddington Tractors, Skirdenhall Barn, Tosside, Skipton, North Yorkshire.

At the firm’s multi-breed sale of rams, a Texel from Messrs Toppin, Basco, Dyke, attracted the lead price of£1400.

Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 1450 store and breeding sheep at the annual HISHA and non HISHA sale, where trade peaked at £140 for HISHA Blackface gimmers from Ballaggan, Dores.

Blackface ewe lambs sold to £124 for Glebe of Deisher, Boat of Garten, whilst non HISHA ewes peaked at £114 for Glenrinnes Estate, Dufftown.

Topping C and D Auctions’ annual ram sale at £900 was a Texel shearling from Boghouse, Crawfordjohn.

Bluefaced Leicester rams also sold well with shearlings to £620 on two occasions, firstly from Drumhumphry, and again from Burgh Head.

Texels were in demand at Craig Wilson’s sale of 1733 breeding and feeding sheep, selling to £182 for gimmers from A and E Paton and Son, Millenderdale, with others to £180.

Mule gimmers realised £175 from G Grierson, Laight, whilst Roussin ewe lambs peaked at £130 from Tormitchell Farms.

A Texel shearling topped the 54 tups at £700 for T Laird, Sunnyside and Carbello, who also sold a Beltex cross shearling for £480.
