A large entry of 550 store cattle was topped at £1490 for two Limousin cross steers from Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth, while heifers peaked at £1400 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Inman, Kilnknowe, Lockerbie.

Weaned bulls sold to £1240 for a Limousin from Norman Farming Company, with bullocks topped by Aberdeen Angus at £1170 on two occasions from DA Summers, Milescott. Weaned sold to £1400 for a Limousin from Kilnknowe.

Dingwall and Highland Marts' annual show and sale of 535 store cattle, yearlings and weaned calves, saw judge, D Budge, Brae Edge, Caithness find his champion in a 435kg British blue cross heifer from Invercharron Mains, Ardgay, which later realising £1920.

Reserve was awarded to a 460kg Limousin cross from Little Croy, Inverness which later sold for £1500.

Out with the show, bullocks averaged 258.2p having peaked at 326.1p and £1500 for a 460kg Limousin cross from Little Croy, while heifers cashed in at 233.1p with a top of 441.1p or £1920 for a 435kg British Blue cross from Invercharron.

Aberdeen Angus crosses led the young bulls 226.4p for a 530kg entry from Garthbeg Farms, Corriegarth and £1260 for a 600kg animal also from Garthbeg, to balance out at 221.9p.

The firm's 92 OTM feeding cows averaged 140.6p having sold to 193.0p for a 710kg Limousin cross from Kinchyle Farm, Scaniport or £1520 for a Beef Shorthorn cross from Braelangwell, Balblair,

All classes sold well at Aberdeen and Northern Marts' sale of 989 store cattle, where bullocks averaged 235p having sold to 272.7p for a 396kg Limousin cross from Nether Minmore, Glenkindie and £1465 for a 666kg Simmental cross from Appieteen, Sandwick.

Heifers cashed in at 234.2p from a top price of 304.9p for a 328kg Limousin cross from Lower Stanger, Birsay and £1400 for a 624kg Charolais cross from Mid Harlaw, Inverurie.

The firm also sold 7109 store sheep, with ewe lambs averaging £100.95 having sold to £138 for Mules from Pittenkerrie, Glassel, while store lambs balanced out at £80.42 with a top of £105 for Suffolks from Upper Tillenhilt, Midmar.

Orkney lambs balanced out at £89.09 having attained £114 for Zwartbles from Skelbister, Orphir, with Shetland lambs selling to £97 for Suffolks from Aithsetter, Cunningsburgh.

Bullocks averaged 231.36p having sold to 278.30p for a 424kg British Blue cross from Buteland or to £1560 for a 708kg similar animal from Stoopshill, while heifers balanced out at 226.05p, from a top price of 273.80p for a 442kg Limousin cross from Buteland or £1520 for a 580kg Charolais cross from Allanfauld.

Limousin crosses led the young bulls at 236.50p for an animal from Wester Mye or to £1310 for an entry from Wester Mye.

Rearing cattle were topped at £830 for a Charolais cross bullock from Messrs Paton, Gateslack, Dumfrieshire.

Harrison and Hetherington's native-bred show and sale of store cattle, saw the judge, Alfie Taylor, Heatheryhall, award the championship to an Aberdeen-Angus cross bullock from Messrs Ross, Wester Middleton, which he later bought for £1460 or 274p per kg

Top price however was £1710 paid for a Shorthorn bullock from Messrs Stirling, Bow. Bullocks averaged 231p.

Heifers sold to £1560 for an Aberdeen-Angus from Whitfied, or 263.4p for another of the same from Sunnycroft, to balance out at 214p.

A 550kg British Blue cross from G Milne, New Bourtreebush topped the heifers at £1500 or to 292.1p for a 428kg Limousin cross from JC Orr, Baldastard, to level at 243p.

On the flip side, weaned heifers cashed in at 221.2p with prices peaking to 268.2p for a 220kg Limousin cross from 100 cross Skigersta Road, Port of Ness and £795 for a 335kg similar animal from 25 Lower Barvas, whilst store bullocks made to 275.9p for a 508kg Aberdeen Angus from 42 South Brager, Barvas and £1500 for a 664kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from 10 Tobson, Bernera, to average 203.2p.

Limousin crosses led the store heifers to average 195.9p and peak at 257.9p for a 221kg entry from 11 Garyvard, Lochs and £1080 for a 480kg animal also from 7 Kershadder, Lochs, whilst breeding cattle sold to £1800 for a Limousin cross cow in-calf from 26 Melbost, Point
