A large show for quality was forward for Craig Wilson Marts' weekly sale, which saw 934 prime lambs sell to average 230.8p. Top price was £130 paid for Texels from S and A McCaig, Mount Pleasant, with Beltex from J McCrae, Beoch, Bargrennan leading the per kg section at 273.3p.

Cast sheep peaked at £115 for a Texel tup from I Service and Co, Moorpark of Barr, with ewes to £110 for a Texel cross from A Wallace and Co, Claycrop.

Penrith

Penrith and District Farmers’ Mart's sale of 3473 prime lambs, averaged 251p per kg having sold to 314p for 44kg Beltex cross Texels from RG Todd, Crosby Hall and to £146 for 58kg Texel crosses from J and A Wear, Milburn Grange.

The cast section reached £220 for a Texel ewe from Field Gate Farms, while rams were topped at £172 from Sky House also for a Texel.

Wooler

Harrison and Hetherington's sale of 1066 lambs and 304 cast sheep saw lambs level at 235p with top prices of £141 and 313p paid for Beltex from Huntington.

Cast sheep were topped at £189 by a Texel ewe from JR Whitecross, Clarabad Mill, while tups sold to £130 for a Beltex from RD Rennie and Son, Sydenham.

Dumfries

Prime cattle met a competitive trade at C and D Auction Marts' sale, with Limousin cross heifers selling to 270p from J Jardine, Yett, while OTM's made £1219.10 and 167p for an Angus from Park.

The 674 prime lambs sold to £127 for Texels from Garloff or 283p for more of the same from Eastside to balance out at 246.2p.

Eastside also led the ewes with Texels at £128, while tups sold to £129 from Over Abington.

Forfar

Limousins took the top prices at Lawrie and Symington's sale, where bullocks sold to a top of 268p for a 608kg animal from the Gask or to £1700.40 for a 654kg entry from Nethermyres, to average 259p.

Heifers peaked at 276p for a 534kg Limousin from Nethermyres and to £1594.68 for a 582kg similar entry from the Gask, to cash in at 254p.

Texels were topped the lambs at 287p and £132 from W Mather and Sons, Shandford, to balance out at 228p with an SQQ of 228p, while Texels from Fallaw led the cast sheep at £128.

Huntly

All classes of primestock enjoyed top prices at United Auctions' sale, where 952 prime lambs averaged 217.5p having sold to 270p and £127 for 47kg Texels from Dunscroft, Huntly.

Cast sheep sold to £140 for a Texel tup from Dunscroft, Huntly.

Darlington

A large show of finished cattle saw Aberdeenshire producer, WA Fettes, Braes of Enzie, Buckie, top the bull trade per head at £2170, with an 897kg Limousin, while top per head was 267p for a 768kg Limousin from AG Watson and Sons, Nunstainton Grange.

Steers sold through Darlington Farmers Mart sold to 291p by a Limousin from M and G Chantrell or to £1976 for a similar animal from TN Callender, whilst heifers peaked at 320p for a cross from JV and JA Hodgson or £2094 from WF Fettes and Son.

Prime lambs averaged 240p with 42kg Beltex from CA and JG Skidmore, Toronto topping the trade at 309p or to £151 on two occasions for similar animals from Messrs Skidmore and AC Simpson and Son, Witton-le-Wear.

The 795 cast sheep sold to £130 for Texel ewes from A and R Thompson, Dimmingdale.

Stirling (Cale)

Caledonian Marts' weekly sale saw heifers sell to 280p per kg for a Limousin from M Orr and Sons, Penston, Macmerry or to £1628 for a Charolais from DM Lyle, Mid Cambushinnie, Kinbuck.

Bullocks reached highs of 275p and £1749 for a Limousin from S and L Bett, Newmills, Stirling.

The 72 OTM cattle cashed in at 154p having sold to 207p for a Limousin from J Burnett and Sons, Upper Spittalton, Blairdrummond and to £1800 for a Limousin from JH and NT Turnbull, Meadowend, Clackmannan.

Dairy types levelled at 120p having peaked at 148p and £1020 from W Waugh, North Bankhead, Avonbridge.

The 1497 prime lambs sold on Tuesday, balanced out at 231p with prices peaking at £145 for a Beltex from Doune Farms, Doune and 300p per kg for a Texel from A McLaren, Nether Strathkinness, St Andrews, while Andrew Dunn, Redhall, Stirling led the cast ewes at £186 with Texels.

Stirling UA

United Auctions had forward 4847 new season lambs which averaged 246.37p per kg having peaked at £142 and 330p for Beltex from Goddens, whilst Grassmainston led the cast ewes and rams with Texels at £209 and £146, respectively.

Thainstone

Aberdeen and Northern Marts' weekly sale saw heifers sell to 237.1p having peaked at 255p per kg for a 560kg Limousin from Newton of Drum, Drumoak and £1551 for a 660kg Simmental from Crichneyled.

The four young bulls cashed in at 202.4p, selling to 215p for a 620kg Limousin from Tarmair, Boyndlie, and £1795.40 for a 955kg Limousin from North Lurg, Midmar.

The 986 new season lambs attained a top price of 263p for Beltex from Foggieley, Craigievar and £130 twice, firstly for a 58kg Beltex from Tillyboy, Echt and secondly for continentals from Skilmafilly, Auchnagatt, to average 217p.

Feeding sheep achieved £180 for a Texel from Ferniebrae, Meikle Wartle.

Longtown

A larger show of 4108 prime lambs were sold through C and D Auction Marts' which levelled at 246.3p having sold to 313p for Beltex from JW and ES Woodmass, Howard House, Gilsland or £152 for Texels from CJ Roots, Kilnford Croft, Dumfries.

A similar show of 4171 ewes witnessed a top of £207 for Texels from Marygate, while rams made £190 for Beltex from JR and CJ Ward, Whitstonehill, Lockerbie.

Lanark

Limousins proved popular at Lawrie and Symington's weekly sale, with heifers selling to 280p and £1857 from Messrs Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie, whilst bullocks sold to 260p and £1641 from Messrs Gray, Balquharage, Lennoxtown.

Beef cows peaked to £1495 from Messrs Cruickshank, Little Kype Farm, Strathaven, while dairy types sold to £1075 from Mesrs Barr, Harelaw Farm, Lanark or to 145p from Messrs Struthers, Moatmains Farm, Lesmahagow.

The 3529 prime lambs saw top prices of £145 paid for Texels from Messrs Dyet, East Merkland and to 304p for Beltex from Messrs Hope, Nether Skellyhill, to average 239.5p with an SQQ of 242p.

The 2345 cast sheep were topped at £220 for Texels from Messrs Pate, Toxside.

St Boswells

Bullocks and heifers both levelled at 248p at Harrison and Hetherington's primestock sale, where the former sold to £1644.30 from Bee Edge and 266p from Penston.

Heifers peaked at £1659.84 from Bee Edge and 283p from Mossburnford.

Texels from South Common and Beltex from Crookston led therime lamb trade at £129 and 267.5p respectively, to cash in at 216.6p, whilst a top price of £141 was paid for Texel ewes from Coxydene.

Ayr

A good show of prime cattle were forward for Craig Wilson Marts' sale, where 11 heifers levelled at 253.3p having sold to 276p per kg for a Limousin from D Andrew, Rowanston.

Bullocks averaged 240.5p having peaked at 266p for a Charolais cross from R Young, Holmes, Drybridge.

The six young bulls reached a top of 215p for a Shorthorn from J Gibb, Giffordland.

The previous day, 2406 prime lambs sold to £134 for a Dutch Spotted from AM Simpson, Tardoes Farm or to 279.1p twice for Beltex from J and R Mitchell, Fowler and William Stevenson, Auchenflower, to cash in at 233.9p.

Cast sheep were topped at £195 by Texels from AD Baird, Langholm.

Carlisle

A solid entry of 41 prime cattle forward for Harrison and Hetherington's sale, saw heifers sell to £2308.60 and 297.5p per kg for a British Blue cross from Messrs Brough, Old Rectory, Carlisle.

Steers sold to £2000.15 for a Limousin from Messrs Cape, Kirkland Guards, Wigton, with a Limousin cross from Messrs Harrington, Hosket Hill Farm, achieving 289.5p.

Howgillside led the cast trade at £2028 and 255.5p with a Limousin.

The 2508 lambs averaged 240p with an SQQ of 242p. Top price per head was £148 paid on three occasions for Texels from Messrs Wigham, Hargill House, Messrs Pearson, Wavercroft and Messrs Brough, The Croft or to 350p for Dutch Spotted from Messrs Scott, Thirlwall Castle.

Cast ewes peaked at £136 was a Texel from Messrs Wigham, Hargill House.

Dingwall

Dingwall and Highland Marts' sale of 19 cattle, saw bullocks average 235p having sold to 249p for a 575kg British Blue from Wester Muckernich, Tore or to £1510.40 for a 640kg Limousin cross from the same home

Limousin crosses led the heifer section which averaged 246.5p with prices reaching 259p for a 550kg animal from Groam, Kirkhill and £1531.20 for a 660kg entry from Bridgend, Dingwall.

The 698 lambs were topped at 254.4p by Texels from The Dell of Killiehuntly, Kingussie and £120 for 55kg lambs from Moy Bridge Croft, Urray, to cash in at 223.6p, whilst feeding sheep sold to £171 for Texel ewes from 38 Lodgehill Park, Nairn.

Castle Douglas

On Tuesday, Wallets Marts sold 2194 prime and cast sheep, where 1622 lambs sold to average 233.24p with an SQQ of 233.84p.

Top price was £124.50 for Beltex from Airyolland and to 280.3p for more of the same from Messrs Smith, Barmurrie, while cast sheep attained £141 for Texel ewes from Messrs McTurk, Barbush.
