Carlisle

Just shy of 500 store cattle were forward for Harrison and Hetherington's weekly sale, where trade peaked at £1700 for Charolais steers from Messrs Story, Blackrigg, Longtown.

Heifers realised £1460 for a Limousins cross from Messrs Charlton, Crown Point, Penrith.

A large show of 319 weanlings were on offer, selling to a top of £1290 for a Limousin bull from Messrs Smith, Kelmore Hill.

In the heifer section Simmental crosses from Messrs Carlisle, Fowrass Farm, sold to £1150, whilst Charolais steers from Messrs Fox, St Johns Kirk, hit £990.

On Monday, the firm also held their weekly sale of store sheep, where a high of £118 was paid for Beltex lambs from Messrs Hague, Mill Street, Frizington.

The breeding sheep met a similar trade, when achieving £120 for Herdwick ewe lambs from Messrs Strong, Grapes Barn, Wigton, which was in aid of Brest Cancer UK.

Dingwall

The pre-sale champion, a five shear tup from Badanloch, topped Dingwall and Highland Marts' great annual show and sale of North Country Cheviot hill rams, when realising £8500 to KM and KJ Curwen, Marshawl Farm.

Two shears hit £5000 for Balnakeil, Galashiels, whilst three shears made £3000 for Castle of Mey, Mey.

Among the shearlings trade peaked at £2800 for Craiglands, Fortrose, with Loch Naver Estate, topping the four shears at £2000.

The firm also sold 256 rams at its continental ram sale, where a top price of £1150 was paid for a Suffolk shearling from A Shepherd and Sons, Stonyford, Tarland.

Texel sold to £920 on two occasions both for shearlings from D Paterson, Veltigar, Tankerness.

Bullocks and heifers averaged 225.34p per kg and 215.50p respectively at United Auctions' weekly sale of 1311 store cattle.

It was bullocks that led the way, selling to 264.90p per kg for a 368kg Limousin cross from Gilston, and to £1650 for a 692kg Charolais cross from Elmscleugh.

Limousin crosses dominated the heifers at 248.80p for a 430kg entry from Balgowan, and to £1420 for a 630kg heifer from Wester Lochdrum.

The firm also sold 2012 store and feeding sheep to a top of £99 for Texels from South Ailey.

Some 5526 store and feeding sheep topped at £109 for Beltex lambs from Newbigging.

Suffolk crosses averaged £91.99 (+£3.09 on the week), whilst Cheviots and Mules balanced out at £87.88 (+£4.19) and £83.86 (-£0.93) respectively. Beltex crosses and Texel crosses slipped on the week cashing in at £92.35 (-£4.64) and £85.01 (-£6.61), whilst Blackfaces averaged £62.44 (+£0.51).

The pre-sale champion was awarded to a 220kg Limousin cross bullock from Messrs Richardson, Upper Samieston, which realised £1020 or 463.6p going to the judge, A.Waddell, Herdmanston Mains.

Limousin heifers led the way at Craig Wilson's sale of 504 store cattle when making £1460 for Auchinairney, and to 277.8p per kg for Holehouse.

Bullocks and heifers cashed in at 215.7p and 210.8p respectively.

Bullocks peaked at £1375 for Aberdeen-Angus from Fernlea, and to 243.7p for Limousins off Lanemark.

Friesian bullocks made £1050 for High Branchal, and to 182.1p for Little Ittington.

Some 1594 store and breeding sheep reached £115 for Aberfield ewes from Messrs Campbell, Low Ballees, whilst store lambs topped at £102 for Texels from J and M Anderson, High Kilbride.

On Tuesday, the firm sold 114 calves and stirks which sold to £480 for a British Blue cross bull from Messrs Andrew Love, Bridge of Aird.

Heifers hit £450 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Robert McCoull and Son, Over Enoch.

Stirks realised £1120 for a Hereford bullock from D and D Young, Straid, whilst heifers peaked at £900 for a Simmental cross from Alex MacDougall and Co, Muirhouse.

A Beltex ram from North Lurg, Midmar, realised £183 among the 1179 feeding ewes and rams, which averaged £68.29.

On Tuesday, the firm sold 4355 store and breeding sheep including island consignments, where trade topped at £500 for a Bluefaced Leicester shearling from Newton of Crathie, Ballater.

Texel cross gimmers from Burnheads, Deskford, realised £175, with breeding sheep averaging £109.52

Store lambs (2395) cashed in at £80.52 having sold to £113 for Texel crosses from Sunnyside, Meikle Wartle, whilst ewe lambs (180) levelled at £86 attaining £109 for Texels from Easter Aquhollie, Rickarton.

Limousins led the bullocks at £1330 for a 664kg entry from Birkhill, and to 262.7p for a 474kg beast from Powflatts.

Heifers peaked at £1275 for a 610kg Simmental from Parklea, and to 267.3p for a 462kg Charolais from Barnsford.

Dairy bullocks topped at £995 for four 576kg Friesians from Parklea, to average 160p.

Huntly

Bullocks and heifers averaged 227.6p per kg and 217.8p respectively at United Auctions' sale of 360 store cattle.

Limousin crosses dominated the pence per kg section, selling to 256p for bullocks from Wester Laggan, Dulnain Bridge, and to 266.7p for heifers from Ballintomb, Dulnain Bridge.

Among the per head it was Charolais crosses that secured the top spots, with bullocks realising £1480 for Caighall, Cairnie, whilst heifers peaked at £1260 for Whinbrae, Huntly.

Also forward this week was the sale of 916 weaned and suckled calves, where bullocks cashed in at 255.9p and heifers levelled at 246.8p.

Topping the sale at 587.3p and £1850 was a Limousin cross heifer from Barnyards of Badenyouchers, Cornhill, which stood reserve champion in the pre-sale show.

The same home also topped the bullocks at 370.4p for Limousin crosses, whilst Charolais crosses attained £1190 for Whiteinches, Pitcaple.

The pre-sale champion, a Limousin cross bullock weighing 270kg, made £1000 for R Miller, Barnyards of Badenyouchers, Cornhill, Champion.
