There was a debut success for David and Pat Blair, Littleinch, Balmerino, when they scooped the baby beef championship with their eight-month-old steer, Fred.

Returning to the event, this section had 75 entries split between the eight classes and proved a highly contested competition, the championships awarded to this Aberdeen-Angus cross by judge, Michael Scott, of Danby Wiske, Northallerton.

On his first outing, this home-bred calf is a son of McCornick Panther, and out of the Limousin cross show heifer, Carly. He is now set for LiveScot later in the month and weighed in at the Expo at 319kg.

The blue and white sash was awarded to the Limousin heifer, Hightown Sarah, jointly owned by John-Smith Jackson, Hightown, and Luck and Beth Wilkinson, Leyburn. This February-born 330kg calf is the result of Shire Apollo onto Garnedd Model and previously stood champion at Wensleydale Show. She’s now destined for the English Winter Fair.
