It was a double victory for Kevin Watret's Solwayview herd, landing both the champion and reserve honours in the British Blue ring.

The top spot was taken by Solwayview Pug, brought out by stockman, Ali Jackson from Maulscastle, Cummertrees. This yearling bull calf is by the AI sire, Bedgebury Kent and out of Solwayview Kesha, which has been shown successfully and has already bred calves to 27,000gns.

On his first outing, he is now set for Stars of the Future next weekend, then LiveScot and the English Winter Fair. He is a full brother to the 2019 Expo champion, Solwayview Niko.

The judge, Andrew Kay, found his reserve honours in the January-born heifer calf, Solwayview Rosie – a daughter of Tweeddale Ironman and out of one of the best flushing cows in the herd, Solwayview Katie.

Having to settle for reserve titles on the day was Ian McGarva, Nether Abington, Biggar, when taking both blue and white tickets in the male and female listings.

Abington Powerhouse stormed his way to runner-up in the male section, being a son of Rocco de la Hasse, out of the show cow, Abington Monica. Brought out by Kelly Blackwood and Duncan Davidson, this boy was on his first outing and is now destined for Stars of the Future and LiveScot.

Reserve heifer was Abington Roxanne, which is backed by home-bred genetics, with Abington Nitro used onto the same dam as the reserve male, Monica.
