Heifers dominated the Aberdeen-Angus ring at the society's Winter National Calf Show, where Neil Wattie's Tonley Ester scooped the female championship before landing the overall.

Backed by home-bred genetics on both sides, she derives from the Ester cow family and is sired by the Tonley Jester Eric-sired bull, Tonley Kasper. She had already proven herself as a show star, too, following success as junior champion at the society's National Show, held at Westmorland Show, earlier this year.

The judge, Mathew Stoker, from Eastern Grey, Wiltshire, found his reserve champion in the form of the reserve yearling heifer, Retties Lady Ruth, from Jamie Rettie, Stirling. This girl is an embryo daughter of Rawburn Transformer and derives from the original Wall Lady Ruth cow family.

The male championship title was awarded to Richard Hassell and Rachel Wyllie, of Brailes Livestock, with their bull, Brailes Finnegan. Sired by Duncanziemere Editor, this boy is out of Gretnahouse Fleur and was brought out by the Rettie family show team
