AFTER what seems like a long time with no shows, along comes an entirely new one – the first Perth Foal Show.

This was held at Netherton Equestrian, Aberargie, a new venue, owned by the Wilkie family, and it proved a big hit with exhibitors and spectators alike, with organisers overwhelmed by the support they received.

The chairman of the organising committee, Ron Brewster, made the decision to run the show as a fundraiser for the much-anticipated Clydesdale World Show 2022 to be held at P and J Live, in Aberdeen, next October – the first time that the 'world' event will be held outside of North America since its inception. Ron’s partner Helen Carr, who is on the committee for the World Show, was delighted with how the day went and the numbers in attendance: “We are delighted with how this new show has been received and grateful for the donation it allows us to make to the World Show. Thanks to everyone who helped make today the success it has been!”

With 78 entries forward, the judge, Ali Christie, of Dalfoil, had a challenging task eventually choosing as champion Collessie Alanna, a yearling filly which was the senior champion from the Black family, Newton of Collessie, Fife. A big winner previously, she's out of Roughlands Jasmine and by Arradoul Balvenie.

The reserve was the reserve senior, Littleward Meghan, a four-year-old mare. also by Arradoul Balvenie from Charlotte Young, Hall Farm, Ayr.

The Blacks also secured the foal championship with their senior colt foal, Collessie Maximus, again by Arradoul Balvenie.

Riding judge, Kirsty Aird, working alongside Mr Christie, saw a good entry of ridden horses forward, with the novice prize going to Bandirran Charlotte, from Val Smith and the open title going to Hugh Thompson's gelding, ridden by Emma Cheape.

Tom Brewster judged the young handler’s class, with a newly-awarded trophy from Newton Glens Clydesdales being picked up by 13-year-old Blythe Duncan.

There was also a spectacular display of horse riding from Kirsty Aird and Glenside Matthews Flower of Scotland (Thistle), after being the best ridden heavy horse at this year’s Horse of the Year Show, in October.
