WINNING PAIRS from Mauchline YFC and Avondale YFC demonstrated their clipping and dressing prowess at the National Finals.

On Sunday, November 7, teams from across the country set their timers and got to work at the 2021 National Dairy Cattle Dressing, held at Craig Wilson Ayr Market.

The hardy pairs had a total of 2 hours 15 minutes for their rough clip, wash, rinse, drying – and their all-important final clip. Ably judged by Alexander Park and David Watson, winning the senior section of the day were Mauchline’s Cameron McGregor [clipper] and Kerr Sloan [holder]. In second was fellow Ayrshire members from Crossroads Glen Martin [clipper] and Craig Baird [holder]. In third and also flying the Mauchline flag were David Howat [clipper] and Tom Howat [holder].

Junior teams didn’t fail to impress the judges with Avondale’s Mark Bryson [clipper] and Harvey Meikle [holder] showing their detailed skills for first place. Members of Stranraer and Rhins, Zoe Ramsay [clipper] & Amy McNeil [holder] came in second place, with Mauchline’s Adam Montgomerie [clipper] and Abbie Montgomerie [holder] in third.

The Young Farmers wanted to extend a massive thank you to George Borland for supplying the calves and to Lely for sponsoring the event.
