A British Blue cross heifer led Harrison and Hetherington's weekly sale when selling to £1740 for Messrs Ritchie, Stormont, Gretna.

Steers peaked at £1640 for a Charolais cross from Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth.

Limousin bulls topped the weaned cattle at £1300 for Messrs Mattinson and Son, Burthwaite, whilst Charolais bullocks sold to £1220 from Messrs Coulthard, Laversdale.

Limousin heifers peaked at £1090 from Messrs Wilson, Charlesfield.

Also forward were 306 suckled calves which witnessed Limousin cross calves from Messrs Dent, Beamwham, sell to £1180 and £1050 for bullocks and heifers respectively.

The weekly sale of 390 calves, reached £565 for a British Blue bull from Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown.

Heifers sold to £465 on three occasions, two coming from Messrs Fisher and one from Messrs McKie, Wedholme.

On Monday, the firm held their weekly sale of store sheep, which topped at £138 for a Beltex lamb from Messrs Hennessy, Orton Rigg, Great Orton.

AT Dingwall and Highland Marts' sale, bullocks sold to 247.1p per kg for a 255kg Limousin cross from Blackwood, Lochcarron, and to £1190 for a 565kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Lower Gartally Farm, Drumnadrochit, to cash in at 205.5p.

Heifers averaged 206.4p and sold to 301.9p for a 265kg Blue Grey from Scroggie, Dingwall, and to £1090 for a Whitebred Shorthorn from Cawdor Estates, Nairn.

Young bulls made 229.0p for a 310kg Simmental cross from Dunachton Farm, Kincraig, and to £890 for an Aberdeen-Angus from Spittal Shore, Strathpeffer.

Also forward were 5586 store sheep of all classes, where 3982 store lambs averaged £78.63 having topped at £136 for a Texel cross from Rockfield Village, Portmahomack.

Texels also topped the ewes, selling to £142 for Kintradwell Estate, Brora, to cash in at £60.21.

Rams realised £410 for a Texel from Kennachy, Forss, and to £112 for a Texel cross wedder from Pithogarty, Tain, at £112.

Heifers cashed in at 231.4p whilst bullocks averaged 232.8p and sold to 346.8p for a 222kg British Blue cross from Ben Craig, Aberlour, and to £1490 for a 704kg British Blue cross from Vinbrake, Birsay.

Bulls sold to 223.9p for a pen of three 402kg Simmental crosses from South Auquhorthies, Oldmeldrum, and to £1190 for a pair of 606kg Aberdeen-Angus from Mains of Glassel, Glassel.

On Tuesday the firm also sold 3012 store and breeding sheep including island consignments, where trade topped at £350 for a two-shear Beltex ram from Hilton of Culsh, New Deer.

Ewe lambs (105) sold to £115 for Charollais from East Cairnton, Drumoak, whilst store lambs (1728) cashed in at £91.86 having topped at £128 for Texels from Strath Farm, Watten.

Store cattle remained a strong trade at Hexham and Northern Marts' weekly sale, where trade peaked at £1640 for a British Blue heifer from Roly Carr, Little Bavington.

Steers achieved £1635 for a Limousin cross bullock from Geoff and James Ogle, Blackburn.

Staged alongside this was the second special ‘Bellingham’ sale of spring born suckled calves where Limousin crosses led the way selling to £1400 for heifers from St Oswalds and Whiteside, and to £1290 for steers from Whiteside.

The firm also sold 6533 store lambs to average £97.65, with a top price of £180 achieved on two occasions, both for Beltex crosses from P and B Robson, Middle Horsleyhope.

Limousin crosses dominated all sections, firstly selling to 254.1p for a 370kg bullock from Ahmore, Lochmaddy, and to £985 for a 450kg entry from Knockline, Bayhead.

Heifers attained 256.7p for a 300kg Limousin cross from Druimtorrach croft, and to £990 for a 445kg of the same breed from Balemore, Bayhead.

The sole entry of breeding cattle realised £1500 for a Simmental cross in-calf heifer from Upper Borve, Castle Bay.

Not far behind on £4000 was a British Blue cross cow with Blonde heifer calf which was part of a reduction sale from G and S Holdings, Little Asby.

Averages were up on the year for heifers and cows with calves, balancing out at £2410.59 (up £332.38 on the year) for heifer outfits and £2043.91 (up £156.25) for cow outfits.

The in-calf section topped at £3600 for a British Blue cross heifer from Messrs Bradley, Penny Grange, Settle, where in-calf heifers averaged £1975.66 (same on the year) and in-calf cows levelled at £1104.82 (-£125.18 on the year).
