A quality entry of Herefords witnessed a heifer from Nick Griffiths,t Bickford, take the senior championship title, while a bull from the team at Moralee led the juniors.

On her first outing and leading the charge among the seniors was the day's female champion, Grifford 1 Princess, a September, 2020-born ET daughter of the big-winning bull, Normanton 1 Laertes, a former inter-breed winner at the Royal Highland.

Having been bred out of Coley 1 Clara, which was purchased at the 2015 Royal Welsh Show by Nick, her half-brother was sold from the herd for 5600gns at the Shrewsbury breed sale, held in April.

Mr Griffiths also bagged the reserve junior honours with the February-born ET heifer, Sky High 1 Miss Allure. Also on her first outing, this girl is a daughter of Dendor 1 Kohinoor and out of the twice 'Female of the Year' victor, Dendor 1 Jennifer 15 – purchased privately from the Dendor herd.

Taking the reserve senior champion title was Willie, Pauline and Katie Wason's yearling bull, Saltire 1 Vinnie, from the Kinglassie-based herd, in Fife. An AI son of Normanton 1 Laertes, this boy is out of Baldinnie 1 Cathy 40, which was purchased privately as one of the herd's foundation cows from the Cameron family, at Balbuthie, as a six-month-old calf, in 2013. Vinnie is no stranger to the show ring, having previously stood first in his class before going on to claim the reserve senior male honours at this year's Agri Expo.

Tom and Di Harrison's Moralee herd, based at Stocksfield, produced the day's junior champion in the form of the March-born ET bull, Moralee 1 Valuabull. Backed by championship-winning genetics, this boy is a son of the home-bred Moralee 1 Rebel Kicks, which stood native inter-breed champion at the Royal Highland Showcase, as well as reserve inter-breed at this year's Great Yorkshire Show and inter-breed champion at Devon County Show, back in June.

His dam, Coley 1 Pippa, was bought privately as a yearling heifer in 2016 and is also a previous Royal Highland Show victor, having clinched the breed championship in 2017. Valuabull has himself bagged a few titles in the show ring already, having won the male championship and reserve overall honours at this year's Agri Expo.
