A smaller than usual show of 23 commercial cattle took the the Stars' ring, where Limousin cross cattle proved the most popular, bagging most of the senior and junior champion and reserve tickets that were on offer.

Elgin-based judge, Andrew Anderson, found his champion in John and James Graham's September-born heifer calf, Tiktok, from their Stirlingshire-based herd. Bred by Hugh Dunlop, Holehouse Farm, Cumnock and purchased in July, this girl was sired by a home-bred bull, Burnbank Officer, and out of a British Blue cow.

Taking reserve honours behind Tiktok was the Royal Highland Showcase champion heifer calf, A’va Butt, from Wilson Peters, Monzie, Crieff. Purchased in April, at Carlisle, this August, 2020-born was bred by John Robertson, Newton of Logierait, Pitlochry, and was a daughter of Warehams Mickey, having been bred out of a Limousin cross cow.

Jennifer Hyslop came up trumps when landing the junior overall title and continental junior reserve honours with her April-born Limousin cross calf. Born three week's premature and respectively named 'Brownie' after the late Hannah Brown – a well-respected stocksperson in both the cattle and sheep world – this girl stood second in her class at the Borderway Agri Expo and will be heading to Borderway Babes, in Carlisle and LiveScot, in Lanark.

An AI daughter of Uptonely Living the Dream, Brownie was out of the 2019 Great Yorkshire Show commercial champion, Queen of Hearts, which herself is out an Auchenrivoch-bred Charolais cross dam purchased from David Henderson, Banton, in 2009.

The February-born Limousin cross heifer calf, Fireball, from Ross Johnston and Andrew Weir, Castlemill, Bonnybridge, stood reserve junior champion. Purchased in September from the Orr family, Randerston Farm, Kingsbarns, Fireball was sired by Mereside Lorenzo and bred out of a pedigree Limousin dam.
