Heifers were the star attraction in the Highland cattle section, when Donald MacNaughton's Rannoch fold and the Tippetcraig fold, belonging to the Burns family, took home the senior and junior champion titles, respectively.

The senior female and overall victor of the day came in the shape of June, 2020-born heifer, Bryar Rose of Rannoch. Having already been paraded around the Kinross Show ring this year and standing first in her class, this AI daughter of Seumus Dubh of Craigowmill is backed by supreme show genetics, having been bred out of the fold's home-bred cow, Hayley of Rannoch – a previous victor of the senior championship at Stars in 2015, as well as securing the overall title at the National Show, in 2017.

Rebecca Greenhorn and Graeme Easton's Aurora of Ranch was placed reserve senior female and reserve overall. Never shown before, this girl is sired by Hector of Earn – sold at the annual breed sale for 5000gns, in Oban – and is out of An Ros 9 of Glengorm.

This year's show will be one for the record books for the Burns family and their Tippetcraig fold, from Bonnybridge, which not only bagged the junior female title and overall junior honours, but also produced the reserve native junior champion in the form of their heifer calf, Julie of Tippetcraig.

On her first outing, this show stopper of a calf is a daughter of the 23,000gns Eoin Mhor 17 of Mottistone and is bred out of Julie 3 of Mottistone – purchased in-calf privately in September, last year.

Alan Prentice also had a successful day in the ring when he produced the reserve junior champion, Banrigh 14 of Hyndford. Out of a home-bred dam, Banrigh 8 of Hyndford, this February-born girl is by the 4000gns Alasdair 4 of Douglas, which was sold in February, at the annual Oban breed sale.
