Some 932 prime lambs sold to average 267.8p at Craig Wilson Marts' sale, where Beltex from R Templeton and Co, Carslae topping the trade at £145 and J Milroy, Kirranrae, sold the lead priced animals per kg at 300p with the same breed.

A Texel tup from B Westby, Craigenquarroch House, topped the cast sheep at £158, with ewes selling to £105 for another Texel cross from C Williams, Blair.

Wooler

Harrison and Hetherington's weekly sale included saw 1067 lambs and 534 cast sheep sell to £166 for 50kg Beltex from Lilburn Estates or to 342p for Texels from Corneyside.

Texels from RJ Bradbury, Black Heddon, topped the cast sheep at £193.

Dumfries

Top price per kg amongst the cattle at C and D Auction Marts' sale was 245p for a Limousin cross bullock from DE Lockhart, Fauldingcleugh, while OTMs sold to £1050 and 135p for a Stabiliser from South Mains.

The 676 lambs cashed in at 272.7p having sold to £138.50 for Texels from West Skelston, and to 300p for more of the same from Terregles Bank.

Texels from Bettyknowes led the cast ewes at £129.

Forfar

Limousins secured the top prices at Lawrie and Symington's sale, with bullocks reaching 275p per kg and £1490.50 for a 542kg entry from Woodhead of Mailer, to level at 258p.

Heifers peaked at 282p for a 540kg entry from West Bog or to £1693.36 for a 694kg lot from Pityot, to cash in at 260p.

Prime lambs sold to £145 for a 46kg Texel from JL Stewart, Broadshade and to 331p for 42kg Beltex from D Smith, Scobshaugh, to average 258.5p with an SQQ of 263.9p.

Texels topped the cast sheep at £114 from Cairnleith.

Huntly

United Auctions' sale of 910 lambs balanced out at 250.1p having sold to 290p for 43.1kg Beltex crosses from Auchairn, Keith and to £138 for 70kg Texel from Lower Mill of Tynet, Buckie.

Ewes peaked at £158 for Beltex from Floors Farm, Grange.

Stirling (Cale)

Caledonian Marts’ sale saw heifers and bullocks average 263p and 251p per kg respectively.

Heifers reached 292p for a Limousin from Easter Ochtermuthill, Muthill or to £1816 for a Limousin from Pitcairn, Cardenden.

Easter Ochtermuthill also sold the lead priced bullock per kg at 272p with a Limousin while another of the same breed made £1759 for Brockwoodlees, Canonbie.

Bulls sold to 215p and £1682 for a Limousin from Bankhead, Aberdour.

Limousins again topped the OTMs at 188p from West Thomaston, Banknock and to £1530 from Meadowend, Clackmannan, while cows sold to 118p and £800 from North Bankhead, Avonbridge.

The 1795 lambs averaged 272p having sold to 320p for Texels and Beltex from D Bell, Kincraigie, Strathmiglo and DGC Stewart, Leysbent, Denny, respectively. Top price per head was £160 for Texels from S Greenhill, Leuchars Lodge.

Cast ewes sold to £213 for a pair of Texels from JAC Stewart, Kinninmouth.

Darlington

Some 76 bulls sold to 297p per kg or £2330; 34 steers to 295p per kg or £2069 and 96 heifers to 322p or £1873 at Darlington Farmers Auction Mart sale.

Of the 76 bulls forward, 22 sold for more than 270p per kg and 14 for more than £2000 to average 245p. A 644kg Limousin from J and A Moralee, Hardriding, topped the trade at 297p, while a 790kg British Blonde from F and JS Gargett, Westwick, Barnard Castle made £2330.

Friesian bulls sold to 190p and £1345 from R Hall and Son.

Heifers were topped at 322p per kg by a 557kg Limousin from JB Luck, Milestone House, Bowes, with steers to 295p for a 627kg Limousin from the Rentons of High Laws, Morpeth.

Top per head was £2069 for a 758kg Limousin steer from W Swinbank and Sons, Caldwell, with heifers to £1873 from TW Clark and Son, Frankland.

The 2029 lambs averaged 269p or £121.73 having sold to 322p for 48kg Beltex from The Askwiths of Crook and £169 for 55kg Beltex from the same home.

Stirling UA

Beltex led United Auctions’ sale of 4006 lambs, which averaged 274.46p per kg having sold to £159 from Cuiltburn, and 339p per kg from Wester Ochtermuthill.

Cast ewes peaked at £179 on two occasions for Texels from Leden Urquhart.

Thainstone

Averages were up on the week at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale, where bullocks averaged 209.8p per kg and heifers at 219.2p.

Bullocks sold to 245p for a 545kg Limousin from Whiteside, Tullynessle, and to £1477 for a 700kg Limousin from Windsoer Farm, Enzie.

Heifers reached 239p per kg for a 565kg Charolais from Hillocks, Whiterashes, or £1433.25 for a 735kg Simmental from Brewthin, Cullerlie.

Young bulls sold to 207p for a 805kg Charolais from Milton of Collieston, Ellon, and to £1683.50 for a 910kg Charolais from Spengar, Sandwick, to average 193.3p.

The 1136 lambs which averaged 238.2p were topped 277.6p and £136 for 49kg Beltex from Logie Durno, Pitcaple, while feeding sheep sold to £191 for Texel ewes from Mid Haddo, Fyvie.

Longtown

The 4251 lambs forward at C and D Auction Marts’ sale saw an average of 273.4p with an SQQ of 275.4p.

Top price per kg was 362p for Texel lambs from EJC Dean, Kirk House, Brampton or £172 for Beltex from C Jackson, Langdyke Cottage, Ecclefechan.

The 4454 ewes sold to £242 for Texels from C Ryrie, East Kirk, Caithness, while rams attained £230 for a pair of Bluefaced Leicesters from RA McClymont and Son, Kirksteads, Yarrow.

Lanark

Limousins topped Lawrie and Symington’s sale, where heifers sold to £1795 and 280p from Messrs Dickinson, Brockwoodlees Farm, Canonbie, and bullocks reached 262p from Messrs Gray, Balquharrage, Lennoxtown or to £1765 from Brockwoodlees.

The 3743 lambs hit a top of £156 for Texels from Messrs Scott, Muirhead and to 336p for Beltex from Downie Farming, Newton of Crathie, to level at 273p with an SQQ of 275p.

The 2402 ewes were topped at £210 for a Texel from Swarthoull.

St Boswells

Harrison and Hetherington’s sale saw bullocks and heifers average 249p per kg and 259p respectively, with bullocks having sold to £1823.28 and 284p from Bee Edge.

Bee Edge also led the per head section among the heifers at £1693.44, while Greenknowe produced the lead price per kg at 296p.

Prime lambs averaged 275.6p selling to £162 for Texels from Symington Mains and to 314p for Beltex from Horsley Hill.

A Texel-bred tup from John Lamb, Shepherds Cottage topped the cast trade at £147, while ewes sold to £145 for Suffolks from W Arnott and Co, Butterdean.

Ayr

Craig Wilson Marts' sale saw 15 heifers average 260.5p having sold to 292p for a Limousin from the Smith family, North Boig, and £1720 for a Limousin cross from the same home.

The seven steers balanced out at 234.8p, peaking at 270p for a Charolais cross from Messrs Smith, North Boig.

The 1599 lambs cashed in at 277.1p, with a top price of £152 paid for a Charollais cross from AD MacFarlane and Sons, Clonbeith Farm or to 307.5p for Texels from Gavin Barr, East Moorhouse.

Cast ewes sold to £222 for Texels from Messrs Mitchell, Hall of Caldwell, while rams sold to £170 for Texels from Messrs Johnston, Meikle Carleith for Texels.

Carlisle

On Monday, Harrison and Hetherington, sold 80 prime steers and heifers to a top of £1994.96 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Dixon, Low Whinnow, Carlisle.

Heifers sold to £1962.23 and 309.5p per kg from Messrs Smith, North Boig, Cumnock.

The 91 bulls saw four sell for more than £2000 peaking at £2181.01 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Hunter, Upper Brydekirk, Annan.

Lambs averaged 282p or £126.50 per head with an SQQ of 292p.

Top price was £178 and 414.5p per kg for Beltex from Messrs Whiteford, Tercrosset.

Dingwall

Dingwall and Highland Marts' prime sale included their annual Christmas show which saw the champion a 19-month-old 600kg Limousin cross heifer from J Munro and Son, Invercharron, Ardgay, top the trade at 450p or £2700.

The reserve champion topped the bullock section for WJ Jack and Son, Woodend, Killearnan. This was an 18-month-old 595kg Charolais cross that sold for 336.2p or £2000.39.

The 665 prime lambs balanced out at 261.7p having peaked at 434.8p per kg and £200 for the champion pen – 46kg Beltex crosses from Torgorm, Conon Bridge.

Feeding sheep reached £190 for a Texel ewe from Woodside, Muir of Tarradale.

Castle Douglas

Wallets Marts had 1611 prime lambs which sold to average 274.48 with an SQQ of 276.59p at their sale which was topped at £153 for Texels from Douganhill Farms and 324.4p per kg for Beltex from Messrs Sturgess, Cullinaw.

Cast ewes peaked at £170 for a Texel from Miss Jardine, Loch House.
