Dumfriesshire Hampshire Down breeders, Andrew Goldie and Louise Forrest of the Hoddom flock, Lockerbie, have triumphed to win not only the best small flock in the north but also the breed's Scottish Flock competition.

Judge Roy McFarlane of the Lecropt flock in Stirling said: "It’s great to see these young breeders doing well and the Hoddom flock has amassed some cracking ewes."

The couple has enjoyed some great success over the past two years, winning the reserve breed championship at the Highland Showcase in June and last year, they landed the reserve inter-breed at the online sheep show with Hampshire Downs.

The breed has also flourished in Scotland over the last few years with its fast finishing characteristics and the ability to cross well on hill sheep.

Reserve champion Scottish flock was Messrs Todd and Shaw's Portpatrick flock from Stranraer.

Over winner of the National competition, was Henry Derryman and Sons' Yarcombe flock from Devon which was established in 1970.
