A good entry of standard and miniature Shetlands saw a show stopping filly from Yorkshire land the supreme.

Judge Douglas MacArthur, of the Merkisayre stud from Culloden presented the tri-colour to Michael Brough’s Birchmoor Simone, a three-year-old from North Farm. No stranger to the limelight, this Birchmoor Viceroy-sired filly out of the Scottish-bred ram, Raeburn Spiggy, boasts several top awards to include champion at the North of England and junior champion at Cheshire, Staffordshire and Royal Lancs Shows.

Mr MacArthur said: “It was a good, quality show of Shetlands, with the top five forward for the championship able to compete at any of the shows in the UK. I’ve never seen the champion before and she’s one of the best I’ve seen this year. She’s a real flush of youth,” he added.

In comparison, the reserve was the veteran show winner, Hawkdale Dixie, a 15-year-old mare from Donna Lochtie, Belmont, Glenfarg, which has won numerous notable accolades over the years to include reserve female at the Highland Show in 2015 and supreme overall at the Black Isle in 2019. Reserve at Kinross Show in August, Dixie was bought as a 21st birthday present for Donna and is by Rosermus of Transy and out of Hawkdale Destiny.
