Friesian calved heifers from West Scoutts, secured the top price of £2050 on two occasions at Craig Wilson's weekly sale.

A smaller show of 82 calves and stirks, reached £855 for a Limousin bullock stirk from Fleminghill, whilst heifers from the same home hit £755.

Among the calves it was British Blues that dominated both sections with bullocks and heifers selling to £365 from Tannockhill, and to £360 from West Park, respectively.

A small selection of breeding cattle witnessed a top call of £1450 for a Simmental heifer with a heifer calf at foot from Bruntland.

Lanark

Lawrie and Symington sold 298 store cattle at their opening sale of the year, where bullocks and heifers averaged 215p per kg and 209.73p respectively.

Charolais dominated the heifers, when selling to £1350 for a 584kg entry from Haswellsykes, and to 263.3p for a 490kg animal from Blackhill.

A 600kg Aberdeen-Angus from Bowridge, hit the top spot among the bullocks at £1300, whilst top pence per kg at 259.6p was paid for a 416kg Limousin from Drumalbin.

Dairy bullocks sold to £830 for a 516kg Holstein from Kilburn, and to 193.2p for a pen of seven Friesians from Haggmuir, to level at 173p.

On Monday, Penrith and District Farmers’ Mart sold 120 store cattle, to a top of £1425 for a Limousin cross bullock from D Smith, Far Close.

Heifers attained £1215 for a British Blue cross Charolais from P Wilson, The Wath.
