A 20-month-old champion bull from local breeders, TW Williams and Co, topped the Welsh Black Cattle Society sale at Dolgellau, selling for 15,500gns.

The bull, Caerynwch Ebrillwr 16 which landed the tri-colour at the pre-sale show, from Caerynwch Farm, Dolgellau, is backed by home-bred genetics on both sides and sold to CW Jones, Llwynsarn, Rhydymain.

Another similarly aged bull, Caerynwch Baron 12, from the same home made 7000gns to G Jones, Betws-y-Coed. He is by Perthi Banner.

Second top price was 9600gns paid for the October 2020-born Ynysfergi Addewid, a Neuadd Addweid 100-sired bull from Owen Jenkins, Borth, Aberystwyth. The buyer was DB Jenkins, Cerrigcaranau, Talybont.

Two bulls sold for 6000gns, with the first being Tryfil Tomi from IG Roberts, Tryfil Isaf, Llanerchymedd, purchased by Jenkins and Partners, Talybont and Caran Thunderstorm from Dilwyn Jenkins, which sold to JG Davies, Talsarnau.

Mr Roberts was back in the money, selling the champion female, Tryfil Camelia 20, a June 2019-born heifer for the equal top section price of 1900gns to Dafydd Edwards, Llanon.

Equalling that 1900gns sale was the champion maiden heifer, Deicws Marian 31, a May 2020-born entry from Mrs GC Williams, Gwytherin, Abergele and Deicws Sara, another maiden heifer from the same home, purchased by DW Jones, Llanrwst.

averages: 21 bulls, £4585.35; 10 maiden heifers, £1643.25; four in-calf heifers, £1590.75. Overall, 35 head, £3402 with an 81% clearance.
