Some 19 new season lambs were forward at Craig Wilson Marts’ sale which averaged 279.2p having sold to £137 and 280.5p for Dorsets from M Walker, Barwinnock.

The 885 hoggs levelled at 268.8p with prices peaking at £150 for Texels from A and J Mcfarlane, Daldowie or to 286.9p for more of the same from A and E Paton and Son, Millenderdale.

Cast sheep sold to £168 for a Texel tup from J McHarrie, Duchra, whilst ewes made £145 for a Texel cross from RJ Maonson and Partners.

Cockermouth

Limousins led all sections of Mitchells Livestock Centre’s weekly sale, where Hunday Farm topped the heifers at 254p per kg and £1480.82, whilst a bullock from Ellenbank, reached £1666.08 or 234p.

The sale of prime hoggs balanced at 274.44p having sold to 346.90p for Texels from New Hall Farm or to £191 for more of the same from High Flatts.

Beltex from Loughrigg topped the cast ewe trade at £210.

Wooler

Harrison and Hetherington sold 827 prime hoggs and 237 cast sheep, with the former topped at £148.50 for Texels from Branton East Side or to 305p per kg from Springhill and Seahouses.

A lead price of £215 was achieved amongst the cast ewes for a Texel from Pallinsburn Estates, while rams made £155 for a pair of Texels from JV Lindsay and Partner, Cornhill Farm.

Penrith

Penrith and District Farmers’ Mart had forward 2169 hoggs which averaged 288p per kg having peaked at 367p for 39kg continentals from FJ and EM Mason and Son, Sickergill or to £164 for 67kg Texel cross Mules from Messrs Sowerby, Sycamore Rise.

Cast ewes balanced out at £103.46 having attained £260 for Texel and Suffolk cross Mules from Messrs Graham, Hallrigg.

Dumfries

A Limousin cross heifer from J Jardine, Yett, topped C and D Auction Marts’ sale of cattle, achieving 265p per kg, while bullocks sold to 242p for another of the same from Fauldingcleugh.

Texels led the 781 prime hoggs, selling to £145 from Shangan or to 310p per kg from Rigghead to balance out at 284.1p.

Texels from Skipmyre topped the cast ewe section at £147.

Forfar

Lawrie and Symington sold 27 prime cattle where bullocks made 274p per kg for a 626kg British Blue from Todhall, and to £1765 for a 706kg Limousin from the Gask, to average 258p.

Heifers achieved 278p on two occasions – for a 552kg Limousin from Nethermyres and for a 582kg Limousin from West Bog, to cash in at 258p.

The 507 hoggs reached £150 for three 50kg Texels from D Stewart and Son, Mains of Dalrulzion and to 307p for three 43kg Texels from the same home, to balance out at 272p.

Mains of Dalrulzion also led the cast ewes with Texels making £150.

Huntly

Untied Auctions had forward 872 prime hoggs which averaged 256.6p per kg having sold to 323p for 40kg Beltex crosses from Kinnermit, Turriff, and to £144 for 53kg Texel crosses from Lazyfold, Duncanstone.

The firm also sold 352 cast ewes to £230 for a Texel from Land Street, Rothes.

Stirling (UA)

Some 3820 old season lambs were forward for United Auctions’ weekly sale, which cashed in at 263.84p per kg.

Trade peaked at £148 for Beltex three times – from Cuiltburn, Doune Farms and Luckenburn – or to 346.00p for more of the same from Doune Farms and Cuiltburn.

The 1401 cast ewes were topped by Texels from Faulds making £199.00, while tups sold to £180 for more of the same from Darnhall.

Darlington

Darlington Farmers Auction Mart had forward 236 prime cattle and 1844 sheep, where 32 steers averaged 250p having sold to 292p per kg on two occasions from A Barnett or to £1937 from IW Cairns.

Heifers balanced out at 274p and topped at 313p from Renton Highlaws Ltd or to £1991 from Mossburnford.

The 63 prime bulls balanced out at 226p, with AG Watson and Sons of Nunstainton Grange leading the trade with a 749kg Limousin selling for 314p and £2351.

The 1519 prime hoggs levelled at 270p, selling to 347p for a Beltex from WA Wardman, Thrushwood, Yearby, or to £164 for 55kg Beltex from the Askwith Family of Crook.

Cast sheep were topped at £200 from FR and AL Lyth.

Thainstone

Some 27 prime cattle met an improved trade at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale, with bullocks averaging 235p having sold to 237p and £1422 for a 600kg Limousin from Whiteside, Tullynessle.

Heifers cashed in at 225.5p and peaked at 247p for a 580kg Limousin from Newton of Drum, Drumoak or to £1575 for a 700kg Limousin from Hillocks, Whiterashes.

The firm also sold 1999 old season lambs to 372.7p for Beltex from West Cairnhill, Culsalmond or to £170 for 64kg Beltex from Porterstown, Fordyce, to balance out at 258.3p.

Feeding sheep averaged £96.32 having sold to £238 for Texel ewes from Porterstown.

Longtown

AT C and D Auction Marts, 6050 prime hoggs were topped by Beltex at 343p per kg from J Watson and Co, Bowsden Moor, or to £185 for Texels from the same home, to level at 274.6p with an SQQ of 276.7p.

Cast ewes sold to £230 for Texels from J Connell Farms, Wanton Walls, Lauder, while rams attained £182 for more of the same from Eastside.

St Boswells

Harrison and Hetherington’s sale of prime bullocks and heifers averaged 253p and 252p, respectively.

Bullocks sold to £1721.90 from Wester Ulston or to 276p on two occasions from Penston and Bee Edge, while heifers achieved £1756.04 from Longnewton and 291p from Penston.

Prime hoggs levelled at 269p having peaked at £171 for Beltex from Crookston or to 307.1p for more of the same from Wester Ulston.

Cast ewes reached £179 for cross-bred Texels from JW Fullerton and Sons, Corsbie.

Lanark

Lawrie and Symington’s sale saw heifers sell to 280p per kg and £1698 for Limousins from Messrs Dickinson, Brockwoodlees.

Bullocks sold to 270p for Limousins from Messrs Gray, Balquharrage, Lennoxtown or to £1705 for more of the same from Messrs Struthers, Collielaw.

Last week’s heifer trade peaked at 268p on two occasions – from Messrs Baillie, Calla and from Messrs Struthers, Collielaw, or to £1607 from Kingside, Leadburn.

The 3467 hoggs hit £159 and 345p for Beltex from Messrs Hope, Nether Skellyhill, to average 267p with an SQQ of 270p.

The 1477 cast sheep peaked at £260 for Texels from Messrs Wight, Midlock and Messrs Cullen, Craighead.

Quoybrae

Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 291 old season lambs to average 242.9p per kg with a top of 292.3p for 39kg Beltex from Stainland and Sibmister Farms or to £125 for 54kg Cheviots from Wester, Dunnet.

The 201 feeding sheep averaged £111.40 and peaked to £212 for Half-breds from Lynegar, Watten.

Ayr

Craig Wilson Marts sold 1801 hoggs to average 266.4p with a top price of £142 paid for Texels from IF Watson, Keyshill or to 314p for Beltex from W Kennedy, Lyonston.

Ewes peaked at £230 for a Texel from J and K Forsyth, Lochlands, while tups made £150 for Charollais from R and J Andrew, Rowanston.

On Tuesday, the firm’s cattle sale saw heifers average 241.9p having sold to 277p for a Limousin from Airyolland or £1663.70 for another of the same from Blairbowie.

Limousins led the bullocks, with prices peaking at 276p and £1642.20 for an entry from North Boig, to cash in at 257.6p.

Dingwall

Limousin cross bullocks from Cullaird, Scaniport, led Dingwall and Highland Marts’ sale at 242p per kg for a 630kg entry and £1668.50 for a 710kg animal, to cash in at 237.9p.

Heifers averaged 241.6p having sold to 251p for a 570kg Limousin cross from Cullaird Farm or to £1539.25 for a 655kg Limousin cross from Bridgend, Dingwall.

The firm’s 462 prime hoggs balanced out at 256.0p with trade peaking at 275.8p for a pair of 47.5kg Texel crosses from Brae-Edge, Castletown and £137 for a 65kg cross from Teanluick Croft.

Cast sheep made £235 for Texel ewes from Keepers Cottage, Corrybrough.

Castle Douglas

Wallets Marts sold 2037 prime hoggs to cash in at 262.74p and peak at £150 for Texels from Messrs Picken, Galtway, Kirkcudbright and 336p for Beltex from Messrs McMillan, Carse of Clary, Newton Stewart.

Texels led the 375 cast sheep with ewes peaking at £211 from Douganhill Farms, Orchardton Mains, while rams made £171 from Messrs Menzies, Burn.

Wigton

Some 22 prime cattle were forward for Hopes Auctioneers' sale, where heifers were topped at 283.5pkg for a 618kg 20-month-old Limousin from JJ Crichton, Loughrigg or to £1928.09 for a 20-month-old Charolais from the same home.

Some 954 prime hoggs sold to average 294p with the trade topping at £170 on three occasions – for a 54kg Beltex, a 48kg Beltex and a trio of 51kg Beltex all from J Dixon and Son Ltd, Lesson Hall or to 397.5p for a 40kg Beltex from GEH and SJ, Hillside.

Ewes were topped at £166 for a Texel from Messrs Harryman, Low Farm, Baggrow, while tups sold to £127 for a Beltex from M Hodgson, Spring Hill.
