The Champion of the World Competition, which celebrated it's 10th anniversary this year, witnessed a Charolais cow with calf at foot take home the supreme overall title for Canada.

Organised and undertaken by international cattle judge and business manager of Trans Ova Genetics, PJ Budler, from Fort Worth, Texas, the competition welcomed a large entry of 1850 cattle ranging across 16 breeds and 91 countries taking part.

Standing supreme overall and taking the title home to Canada was the Charolais cow, Brche Berkly Ann 8507, with her heifer calf at foot, Miss Prairie Cove Cays 159J, which is sired by PCC Brewitt 929G.

Jointly owned by the MacGillivray Family, of Cay's Cattle, Kinistino, Canada and Longview Cattle Co, Grenfell, Canada, Berkly Ann is a daughter of M&M Ooutsider 4003PLD and bred out of TR MS Berkly 4711B ET.

This girl has already made a name for herself in the show ring having claimed the inter-breed title at Canada's most prestigious cattle show, the Agribition competition, back in November of last year.

Taking the reserve spot was the American Brahman bull, Mr H Pride of Maddox Manso 684/8 bred by Heritage Cattle Company owned by the Cullers family of Hungerford, Texas. He is sired by Mr H Maddox Manso 684 and out of Lady H Adelyn Manso 55/9.

Commenting on why the Charolais was the stand-out animal was supreme official judge, William McLaren, of Netherton Farm, Blackford, Auchterarder: "It was an absolute honour and privilege to have been asked to judge this year's World Supreme Competition. I'd like to congratulate all the breeders and exhibitors for reaching this stage in the competition. The standard through every round was very high and we had to be very critical when judging the later rounds just to separate these cattle, but I do believe that the best two animals were in the final," he said.

"The bull had lots of presence and he showed great masculinity and muscle expression but, for me, I think the Charolais cow and calf just oozed so much style. She had lots of femininity up through the fore-end but still carried depth of body right through, with a good udder and an outstanding calf at foot, which for me just tipped the balance in her favour."

William was one of a panel of five supreme official judges, as he was joined by Cesar Payan Meyer, of Columbia; Erica Halliday, of Australia; Garth Racnier, from Canada and Willie De Jagar, of South Africa.
