Durie Farms, which is owned and run by Douglas Christie, is a predominantly grass-fed system that includes adaptive multi-paddock grazing with increasingly longer rest periods throughout the grass growing season between March and November. The organic system stretches across 470 acres and in 2021 Durie Farm’s put 104 cows and 37 heifers to the bull and finished an additional 80 cattle.

After changing to a ‘mob-grazing’ approach in 2019, Douglas sees the farm’s natural capital as being the biggest winner as well as a reduction in machinery use, fuel, labour, winter housing, silage making, and dung handling and spreading.
