All classes met a buoyant demand at Harrison and Hetherington's weekly store sale, where a top price of £1640 was paid for a Limousin cross bullock from G Batey, High Knells, Houghton.

Native cattle peaked at £1620 for a Beef Shorthorn bullock from Messrs Robinson, Gelt Hall, whilst a Limousin led the the heifers at £1560 for Messrs Bettie, Woodfield, Annan.

The sale included the dispersal of cows and calves from DM Morrow, The Paddock, Silloth which peaked at £1680 for a British Blue cross with a Charolais cross calf at foot.

The collective sale of 419 weaned cattle peaked at £1330 for a Limousin bull from Messrs Watson, Sanders Close, Slaggyford, with steers to £1140 for and Angus from Messrs Hall, Riding Hill, Stanley, and heifers to £1160 fro a Limousin duo for Messrs Pattinson, Bonshawside, Lockerbie.

And, the 373 calves, hit £540 on two occasions – for British Blue bulls from Messrs McKie, Wedholme Hill, with heifers to £440 for a Limousin from Messrs Fox, Windy Hill.

Breeding cattle sold on the Friday hit a top of £2250 for Limousin cross heifers and calves from Messrs Betts, Bridge.

Cows and calves were topped at £1850 twice for Limousin and calf outfits from Messrs Johnston, East Foresheilds and Messrs Connell, Wanton Walls.

All classes of sheep met a strong trade at Dingwall and Highland Marts' sale of 2261 head where a top price of £540 was paid for two-crop Cheviot ewes carrying twins from the dispersal of Fiona MacLeod's flock from Migdale, Airdens,

In-lamb gimmers from the same home sold to £270 to average £105.13.

The sale of 25 Blackface and Cheviot breeding females hit a top of £1000 for a one-crop Blackface ewe from Robert Flett of Crackaig. She is by an £18,000 Glenrath and sold carrying a single to a £15,000 Crossflatt to Messrs Martin, Hushinish, Tong.

Cheviots were topped at £500 by a two-crop hill-type entry from Messrs Kerr, Colony, purchased by Kevin MacDonald, Coll. She sold scanned carrying twins to a Dorrery sire.

Store hoggs cashed in at £66.59 having peaked at £130 for a pair of Cheviot Mules from Lower Geanies, Fearn, whilst ewes balanced out at £71.19 having sold to £145 for Bluefaced Leicesters from Whitebog, Rosemarkie.

Heifers sold to 300.00p for a 390kg Limousin cross from Killocraw, and to £1460 for a 581kg Charolais cross from Cretlevane.

Charolais crosses led the pence per kg sections selling to 318.9p for 254kg bullocks from Dallasbroughty, Dunphail, whilst heifers weighing 434kg made for Darley, Fyvie, sold at ?????

Top price per head was £1800 paid for a 640kg British Blue cross heifer from Murza Farm, Bower, whilst bullocks peaked at £1580 for a 726kg Limousin cross from Troup Home Farm, Gamrie.

Bulls sold to 248.5p for a 340kg Charolais cross from Nearhouse, Rousay, and to £1150 for a 528kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Mid Mains of Balfour, Fettercairn.

The 89 head of adult breeding cattle were peaked at £1720 for a Simmental cross in-calf cow and £1600 for a similarly bred heifer from Lochiepots, Elgin.

The firm also sold 1421 store and breeding sheep on Tuesday to average £76.83 and £112.19 respectively.

On Monday, Caledonian Marts sold 302 store cattle and 586 store sheep at their fortnightly sale, where bullocks sold to 291p per kg for Aberdeen-Angus from GS Stewart, Wester Whin, and to £1510 from WN McLaren, Blairgorts.

Bullocks and heifers balanced out at 237p and 225p respectively.

Heifers attained 260p for G and M Porter, Carrabus, Isle of Islay, and to £1210 from Whitelees, Stirling.

The 586 sheep of all classes were topped at £158 for Texel gimmers scanned for twins from Ardyne Organic Farms Ltd.

Cheviots led the store hoggs at £97 for MJ and AM Mill, Shawsmill and feeding ewes peaked at £79 for Herdwicks from SN Charrington, Treshnish.

Bullocks and heifers averaged 248.6p per kg and 237.4p respectively at United Auctions' sale of 1205 cattle.

Simmental crosses secured £1580 to top the bullocks and heifers for Mains, Huntly, and Nether Kirkton, Barthel Chapel, respectively.

Top price per kg was 304.8p for Limousin cross heifers from Barnyards of Badenyouchers, Cornhill, witht Charolais cross bullocks making 297.4p for Main Street, Aberchirder.

On Tuesday, C and D Auction Marts' sold 1250 breeding sheep of all classes where Mule gimmers and Swaledale ewes from J Casey and J Main, Argyll, topped the trade at £202 and £132 respectively.

The first sale of ewes with lambs at foot met a buoyant demand selling to £104 on two occasions for Texel crosses from G Tutton, The Poplars.

The dispersal of Blackface stock ewes from Whitehope reached £100 on two occasions.

And, the 2164 store hoggs and feeding ewes sold to £143 for Suffolk ewes from Boreland, with store hoggs peaking at £125 for a Cheviot Mule from Archbank Farming Co.

Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 802 store cattle to a top of 310.2p per kg for 353kg Charolais cross heifers from Stainland and Sisbmister Farms, to average 243.7p.

Top price per head among the heifers was £1430 from Lythmore, Bridge of Westfield.

Bullocks cashed in at 251.8p having sold to 288.5p for 357kg Charolais crosses from Nottingham Mains, and to £1500 for a 666kg Limousin cross from Lower Thura, Bower.
