Brother and sister duo, David Burroughs and Margaret Vale, along with David’s son, Jamie, from Oaklands, Aldeby, Suffolk, secured their fourth consecutive win at the British Friesian National Show at the Borderway UK Dairy Expo.

Their winner was the previously unshown Oakalby Brandy Britto 57, an Ex94 fourth calver that last calved in August and is now giving 23litres. She is a daughter of Langley Brandy 2, out of Oakalby Stour Britto 44 – one of 450 cows in the herd.

"My champion caught my eye as soon as she entered the ring, being well-balanced and showing that extra maturity throughout. Her fore udder attachment was excellent and she really was the perfect example for the breed," said judge, Jane Arrell, Shropshire.

First time exhibitors, Thomas Moscrop and family, Ryeclose, Irthington, Carlisle, secured the blue and white sash, having been previous winners in the Dairy Shorthorn rings. Their winner, Irthingelt Balmoral Spirit 4, a first calver in October, is now giving 28kg for the family’s 450-cow herd consisting of 300 British Friesians and 150 Dairy Shorthorns. She is by Barncluth Crystal Balmoral and out of Irthingelt Dunsyre Spirit, which is now in her sixth and predicted to give 8500kg.

Adding to the prize haul, Basil Lawson, son Adam and his son Ruaridh (8), from North Cassingray, Largoward, landed the honourable mention with Lismulligan Aster 2. This VG85 heifer in milk produced her first in September and is by Kirkby Pax, out of Raby Aster 82.
