A compact drive unit from the Claas Jaguar forage harvester to be utilised in the company's Scorpion 1033, 741, 736, 732 and 635 telehandlers.

Designed and manufactured exclusively for Claas, this comprises two hydrostatic motors inside a compact housing which share a common shaft and swash plate. Both motors have a maximum swivel range of 23°, with both traction units controlled by a common distribution unit.

As before, the operator can select three driving ranges – 0 to 15 km/h, 0 to 30 km/h and 0 to 40 km/h – with a simple button press. The top speed is reached at a reduced, fuel-saving engine speed.

Varipower 2 transfers just as much torque to the wheels as the previous transmission, but the simpler design, which dispenses with the need for transfer gears, ensures lower wear and long longer service life, said Claas.

A new feature is that the housing oil is continuously extracted from the drive housing by a powerful venturi tube, which significantly reduces churning losses when driving at speed, leading to lower fuel consumption on road journeys.

The Scorpion 960, 756 and 746 will continue to work with the Varipower (746) and the high-performance Varipower Plus transmission (756, 960).

New options for all Scorpions include the latest generation Claas cameras, which can be mounted at the rear and on the telescopic arm, or hitch frame and are housed inside a new holder for optimum protection.

The image is transferred to a separate display in the cab, which switches automatically to the rear camera when reversing. This greatly increases safety and convenience. Integrated heating inside the camera housing prevents the lens from misting up or freezing when the weather is cold or wet.

A new four-digit counter is also available within easy reach of the joystick for manually counting load cycles. Other new features include an LED flashing beacon, self-cancelling indicators and additional tyre options.

Also from Claas, there's more performance and a new entry-level model for the compact Torion wheeled loader range.

The new 46hp newcomer is the Torion 530, while the Torion 535 and 639 models get more engine grunt.

The 530 is powered by a 46 hp Yanmar four-cylinder engine of 2.2-litres. Despite its diminutive size, its hydraulic system still delivers a healthy 61 l/min at 230 bar, enabling an articulated tipping load of three tonnes. And, its parallel-guided Z-kinematics of the conical mast allows for a bucket pivot point of 3.18m to be dumped over heights of up to 2.82m and maximum reach of 1.46m.

Bot the mast and attachment are operated using a joystick. Alternatively, the two additional control circuits can be controlled using an additional lever or at the push of a button.

On the larger 535 and 639 models, power from the Yanmar four-cylinder engine has been increased to 74 hp and they are now optionally available with either standard or High-Lift Z-kinematics.

In the standard version, over-reach heights of 2.82m (535) or 2.98m (639) can be achieved, while the High-Lift version can reach 2.97m and 3.18m. Depending on the version, the bucket pivot point is between 3.19m and 3.54m.

Maximum reach is from 1.49m to 1.71m. With a hydraulic delivery volume of 70, or 80 l/min, the articulated tipping load of the 535 is 3500 kg (High-Lift: 3300 kg) and on the 639 model it is 3900 kg, or 300kg less for the extended lift.

All of the smaller Torions meet Stage V emissions standards using a diesel particulate filter (DPF) and a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) without SCR. They also have a sensitive and durable hydrostatic drive with two speed levels, which accelerates the 530 to a maximum of 20 kph and the two larger models now up to 30kph.

Their 40° steering angle makes them handy to work in enclosed spaces and when fitted with standard 340/80 R18 tyres, even the largest model remains below 2.5m clearance.

A redesigned spacious cab has additional storage options and compartments, with all-round visibility enhanced by a curved front windscreen for an excellent view of the mast and raised attachments.

The infinitely three-way adjustable steering column, an air-sprung driver's seat, air conditioning and a low cab noise level produce ideal driving comfort.

Optionally, the cab roof can be fitted with halogen work lights or up to eight LED lights with 360° illumination.
