Bullocks from Nethermyres, led Lawrie and Symington's sale of 24 prime cattle selling to 2.59p per kg for a 636kg British Blue and to £1720.40 for a 680kg Limousin, to average 254p.

The same home also topped the heifers at 2.66p for a 558kg Limousin, with the same price paid for a similar type from West Bog. Top price per head was £1670 paid for a 668kg Limousin from Greenhead. Heifers cashed in at 253p.

A mixed show of hoggs achieved an average of 231.9p and a SQQ of 244.3p, having reached £143 and 332.6p for 43kg Beltex from CL Wylie, Balbrydie.

Newton Stewart

An average of 242.3p per kg and a SQQ of 256.3p was achieved for the 749 hoggs at Craig Wilson's weekly sale.

Topping the section at £123 were Lleyns from J Howatson, Risk, and to 272.6p for Beltex from C Campbell and Son, Craigalbert.

Blackface hoggs attained £120 from Lagafater Farms, Barnvannoch, and to 263.9p for WC and MJ Ferguson, Markdhu.

Cast sheep remained a strong trade with a Texel cross leading the trade at £150 from Baltier Farming Co Ltd.

Dumfries

Steers and heifers sold to 228p per kg and 270p from Faulding Cleugh, and Yett, respectively at C and D Auction Marts' sale.

Hoggs sold to £135 for Texels from Broadlea Cottages.

Texels topped the ewes at £180 from North Cowshaw, with more of the same breed achieving £185 for rams from Nether Locharwoods.

Cockermouth

Limousins from JA and CM Brown, Park House, Isel, topped Mitchells Auction Marts' sale when selling to 264p per kg and £14717.68 for bullocks and to 236p for heifers.

Bulls were topped at 242p and £1594.60 for a Limousin and a Charolais respectively both coming from TA Byers, Ellenbank, Boltongate.

Cast cows met a buoyant demand, reaching 216p for a Limousin from WH and F Wood, Well Head, Dea, and to £1579.20 for a Holstein Friesian from R and M Allinson, Barnyard, Greysouthen.

A joint top price of £179.50 was paid on two occasions among the hoggs, both for Texels – from Messrs Fraser, High Flatts, Gilcrux and from G Gate, Hollins Farm, Eaglesfield. Top price per kg was 390.2p paid for Beltex hoggs from I Powley, Green Marsh, Carlisle.

Fewer ewes saw prices peak at £210 for a Texel from R Lindsay, Derwent House, Broughton Cross. Fell ewes sold to £107 for Herdwicks from TT and GE Hodgson, Woodside, Maryport.

Penrith

Some 4353 prime sheep were forward for Penrith and District Farmers' Marts weekly sale, where a SQQ of 281p per kg was achieved among the hoggs.

Beltex cross hoggs weighing 40kg realised 398p per kg and £159 for W Gribbon and Co, Waterside. Also achieving £159 was a 46kg Beltex cross from Messrs Lightfoot, Gillside.

Cast ewes averaged £117 ahead, hitting a top of £278 and a new centre record, from Backmuir Livestock.

Bluefaced Leicesters at £208 topped the cast rams for T Pearson, The Faulds.

Stirling (Cale)

Bullocks and heifers averaged 280p per kg and 254p respectively at Caledonian Marts' sale of 122 cattle.

Limousins led the heifers at 295p for DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill, and to £1734 for J Collier and Son, Dullomuir.

Bullocks realised 280p for a Limousin from W Dandie and Sons, Learielaw, and to £1928 for an Aberdeen-Angus from C Smith, South Flanders.

Also forward were 67 OTM cattle, which cashed in at 171p, having sold to 235p for a Limousin from JH and NT Turnbull, Meadowend, and to £1560 for a Simmental from J Brown, Greencraig.

Dairy cows sold to 186p and £1170 for JB Taylor and Sons, Blackburn, to average 142p.

On Tuesday, hoggs cashed in at 248p per kg with a SQQ of 262p.

Beltex led the trade at £144 on two occasions for a 56kg and 51kg from Doune Farms, and DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill, respectively.

More of the same breed weighing 38kg toppped the price per kg at 324p for JM McDonald, Newbigging.

Texels led the cast ewes and tups at £230 and £220 from B Carruth, High Auchensale, and D Findlay, Pirnhall, respectively.

Thainstone

All classes were sharper on the week at Aberdeen and Northern Marts' weekly sale where Limousin heifers led the proceedings at 261p per kg and £1683.35 for 620kg and 655kg entries from Hillocks, Whiterashes, to average 233.5p.

Bullocks sold to 255p for a 600kg Limousin from New Mains, Glenkindie, and to £1605.50 for a 650kg Charolais from Roselea, Fetternear, to cash in at 238.3p (+27.7p).

Young bulls averaged 225.1p having sold to 237p for a 800kg Limousin from Cocklarachy, Huntly, and to £1966.90 for a 890kg Limousin from Greenbrae, Auchterless.

Cast cows and bulls achieved an average of £1318.81 for 239, with a 926kg Limousin finished cow achieving £2000 for Newton of Mountblairy, Banff, whilst feeding cows peaked at £1570 for a 704kg Limousin from Wellheads, Huntly.

Feeding ewes and rams reached £246 for Texels from Tillyboy, Echt, to balance out at £107.75.

The 3264 old season lambs cashed in at 235.4p having sold to 304.3p for 46kg Beltex from Belnaboth, Glenkindie, and to £151 for 57kg Texels from Harestone, Crathes.

Longtown

An overall sale average of 249.2p per kg and a SQQ of 256.7p was achieved at C and D Auction Marts' sale of 8863 sheep.

The sale was topped at £1062 and 152p from TN Cavers and Co, Sorbie, Langholm, whilst Beltex hoggs from DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill, Crieff, topped the price per kg section at 433p.

Top price amongs tht e3167 ewes was £238 paid for Texels from GD Pate and Sons, Stobshiel Mains, East Lothian.

Stirling UA

United Auctions sold 5539 prime hoggs to average 244.40p per kg, having reached £156 for Texels from Allanfauld, and to 346p per kg for Beltex from Coilavoulin.

Texels topped both the ewes and tups at £250 and £180 from Carriston, and West Tandlemuir, respectively.

St Boswells

On Monday, Harrison and Hetherington held their weekly prime sale where bullocks and heifers averaged 262p per kg and 253p respectively.

Bee Edge led three out of four of the sections, topping the bullocks and heifers per head at £1868.72 and £1829.88 respectively, and the heifer pence per kg at 306p, whilst bullocks pence per kg made 288p from Penston.

Cast cows (32) averaged 186p and sold to 225p (+10p on the week) and £1732.

Hoggs slipped 5p per kg on the having sold to 328.8p fro Beltex from Faughhill and to £156 for Texels from Mainside, to cash in at 245p.

A new centre record of £231 was achieved amongst the cast ewes when a Texel from for Floors Farming, Rawburn was sold, with a similarly bred ram from WD Mundell and Son, Meikle, leading the tups at £193.

Ayr

Texels led the proceedings at Craig Wilson's sale of 2770 sheep, comprising of 2360 hoggs and 410 cast sheep, when a pen from A Currie, Fisherton, achieved £134, whilst Blue Texels from Messrs Cousar, Howcommon, topped the prices per kg at 310p.

The sale averaged 247.1p per kg with a SQQ of 263.4p.

Tight numbers amongs the cast sheep saw ewes sell to £205 for Texels from J Gilmour, Humeston, whilst rams peaked at £192 for more of the same from A Currie, Fisherton.

Lanark

Messrs Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie, again produced some of the top priced cattle at Lawrie and Symington's sale on Monday with heifers to £1919 and 294p per kg.

The same home also topped the bullocks at 280p, with a top per head of £1700 achieved by Messrs Moffat, Hillend, Biggar.

Cows sold to £1450 for an Aberdeen-Angus donated to the Ukraine Fund Raiser by W Steel and Co, Cumberhead, Lesmahagow.

Hoggs were topped at £163 on two occasions for a Beltex from Messrs Baillie, Broomfield, and again from Messrs Dickie Spango, who also sold more Beltex to a top the prices per kg at 388p. The sale averaged 256p with a SQQ of 264p.

The 1237 cast sheep met the dearest trade to date, averaging £97.16, having sold to £268 for Texel ewes from D Gray, Sunnycroft, and to £224 for Texel rams from The Cottage.

The first sale of motherless lambs reached £21.50 for Texel lambs.

Carlisle

A 723kg Limousin cross made £2179 at Harrison and Hetherington's weekly prime sale to top the heifer trade for Messrs Studholme, Nealhouse, Carlisle.

Top price per kg was 301.5p from Messrs Little, Greenhill, Wigton.

Steers sold to £2052 for a 788kg Limousin cross from Messrs Studholme, Nealhouse, and to 274.5p for a 644kg Limousin cross from Messrs Studholme, Nealhouse.

Centre records for a prime bull were also smashed when a 1073kg British Blue from Messrs Pattinson, Temon Farm, Brampton, made £3235.10.

Lanarkshire breeders, Messrs Comrie, Stonebyres Mains, topped the cows with two British Blue – a 934kg entry at 249.5p selling for £2330 and 917kg cow at 239.5p totalling £2196.

Top prices amongst the hoggs were £152 and 347.1p paid for a pair of Texels from CR and CL Donaldson, Hazel House, York

Cast ewes peaked at £200 for a Blue Texel from Ali Dodd, Tundergarth Mains, who donated the proceeds to Cancer Research. The sheep was resold three times and finally sold for £175 to Robert Skelton with the total money raised being £800. A sale average of £119.50 was achieved.

Hawes

More than 1000 sheep were forward for Hawes Farmers Auction Mart's weekly sale, where trade peaked at £130 for Bluefaced Leicesters from SH TA and M Sutcliffe.

Ayr

Trade was sharper on the week at Craig Wilson's sale of 114 prime and cast cattle, where a Limousin heifer topped the sale at 286p per kg from the Miller Family, High Gameshill.

Bullocks sold to 276p for a Limousin from Burnockstone.

Bulls peaked at £1680 and 157p for a Simmental from Baltersan.

On Monday, 2770 sheep came under thee hammer comprising of 2360 hoggs and 410 cast sheep, where Texels led the hoggs at £134 for A Currie, Fisherton, and 310p per kg was paid for Blue Texels from Messrs Cousar, Howcommon.

The whole sale averaged 247.1p with SQQ of 263.4p.

Among the cast sheep a pair of Texel ewes made £205 for J Gilmour, Humeston.

Dingwall

A small show of just 15 prime cattle were forward this week for Dingwall and Highland Marts, where heifers from Burnside of Montbletton, Banff, led the way selling to 257p per kg for a 585kg Limousin cross, and to £1801.80 for a 715kg British Blue cross.

Heifers cashed in at 244.3p (+3.8p) with bullocks averaging 226.0p (-10.9p).

Aberdeen-Angus from Scaristavore, Isle of Harris, dominated the heifers at 226p on three occasions for animals weighing 620kg, 640kg and 680kg, whilst top per head at £1536.80 was the 680kg entry.

The firm also sold 1229 prime sheep, where old season lambs (976) averaged 240.4p per kg (+2.7p) and sold to 263.0p for 46kg Texel crosses from Kinchyle, Scaniport and to £130.50 for a 55kg Texel cross from Inverugla, Kingussie.

More Texels led the feeding sheep at £206 for Loandhu, Fearn.

Wigton

On Tuesday, Hope's Auctioneers sold 34 prime cattle to a top of 289.5p per kg for a 635kg Limousin heifer from J Dixon and Sons, Lesson, Hall, and to £1982.88 for a Limousin bullock from the same home.

A Beltex weighing 39.3kg led the 1479 prime hoggs at 428.4p for PW Simpson, High Scale, whilst top per head at £180 came from David Batty, Cobble Croft.

Overall an average of 301p was achieved with a SQQ of 322p.

Darlington

Heifers and steers averaged 270p per kg and 237p respectively at Darlington Farmers Auction Marts' sale of prime cattle.

Limousins dominated the heifers when achieving 324p for a 534kg animal from Wayne Armstrong of Coxhoe, and to £2027 for a 724kg beast from Mark Simpson, McNeil.

On the male front, it was Limousins from WJ Scott Ltd, Low Leam, that took home 290p and £1947.

Prime bulls averaged 241p per kg having sold to 317p for a 737kg Limousin from C Harle and Sons, Brandon Hall.

Just shy of 1000 prime hoggs also came under the hammer when cashing in at 245p and a SQQ of 258p.

Beltex hoggs weighing 38kg made 321p per kg for the Dent family of Northfield Farms, with more of the same this time crossing the weigh bridge at 53kg hit £153 for Roots Farm Shop, East Rounton.

A Texel ewe from B Layfield, Nackshivan, Crook, sold for £300 with the cast sheep averaging £109.

Castle Douglas

Some 1051 prime hoggs sold to average 251.37p per kg and achieved a SQQ of 257.54 at Wallets Marts' weekly sale.

Beltex dominated the trade when selling to £114.50 for Messrss Farries, Byrecroft, and to 298.6p for Messrs Adams, Torhousekie

Among the 231 cast sheep trade peaked at £257 for a Texel ewe from Rascarel, with rams realising £207 from the same home.

Kirkby Stephen

A pair of 42kg Beltex cross hoggs from Messrs Jackson, Little Eccleston, Preston, secured £179 at Harrison and Hetherington's weekly prime sale of 4814 sheep.

Topping pence per kg of 431.3p was paid for 40kg Dutch Texel cross hoggs from Messrs Batty, Cobble Croft, Wigton.

Cast sheep were again dearer on the week being one of the dearest trades seen, reaching £245 for a Texel cross ewe from Messrs Skelton, Newhall Farm, Maryport.

Cast rams sold to £212.50 for a pair of Texels from Messrs Dargue, Smardale Hall, Kirkby Stephen.
