Averages: Freshly calved animals: 121 Holstein heifers milk, £1939.79; 21 Holstein cows milk, £2012.85; seven British Friesians in milk, £1848.57; eight cross bred heifers in milk, £1791.25; 10 Ayrshire heifers in milk, £1622.22; six faulted cows ¾,£1006.66; three Holstein in-calf heifers, £1793.33; 11 British Friesian heifer calves,£501.81.

Some 71 animals sold for £2000 or more at Harrison and Hetherington's monthly Borderway dairy sale, with trade peaking at £2850 for a Holstein heifer.

Sale leader, Belahvalley Lighthouse Rose came from the Hatswell family, The Buildings, Kaber, Kirkby Stephen, who sold another four heifers to cash in at £2492, along with the second top price of £2550.

The top priced heifer is a daughter of Westcoast Lighthouse, bred from a VG88 Belahvalley Phantom Rose dam, and found a new home with Messrs Forsyth, Newton Stewart, Wigtownshire, now giving 35kg.

The same home produced a fresh second calver at £2350 when selling to Messrs Kincaid, Lockerbie, Dumfriesshire. She is sired by Comestar Lineman and out of Broughton Jet 45.

Messrs Graham, Wigton, Cumbria, forked out £2550 for the fresh heifer, Belahvalley Stone Profit, this time sired by Seagull-Bay Stone, out of the Ex90 classified dam, Belahvalley Kingboy Penny.

Brown Swiss heifers attained £2500 for Soulseat Rembrandt Lauren 2 for the Robert A McColm, High Boreland, Lochans, Stranraer. This heifer is a daughter of Kedar Nelgor Rembrandt, out of Soulseat F One Lauren, and was knocked down to Messrs Palmer, Maryport, Cumbria.

Errolston Gauntlet Dream topped the cow trade at £2450 for Brian and Valerie Davidson, Errolston, Gretna, when securing a new home with Messrs McCulloch, Stranrear, Wigtownshire.

This second calver is backed by home-bred genetics being the result of Errolston Gauntlet sire onto Errolston Remedy Dream VG87.

Dumfriesshire buyers, Messrs Kincaid, Lockerbie, got for their £2420 the heifer, Cambus Receive Ebony from John and Emma Lyle, Nether Pratis, Leven, Fife. This girl is sired by Brantantdale Recieve and out of Kenbow Lottie Ebony 2.

Not far behind on £2400 was the best from GJ Holden, Skye House, Broughton In Furness. Their heifer is a daughter of Swissbec Brekem, out of Broughton Flop 61, and heads to Shropshire with Messrs Mason, Shrewsbury.

The same transaction was completed at £2380 for the similarly aged heifer, Broughton Lister 51. This girl is sired by De-Su Spring Silverado and out of Broughton Lister 42.

Also heading to Shropshire this time with Bowdler Farm Ltd, Shrewsbury, was Deerslet Burner Fanta from Richard Lawson, Deersleet, Burton, Lancashire. This freshly calved heifer is backed by Da-So-Burn Altaburner, and out of the VG 88 dam, Deerslet Unix Fanta.

In an all Scottish Transaction Robert Gemmell, Brownfield, Dumfries, sold the heifer, Brownfield Milkshake Britina for £2350 to Messrs Somerville, Dumfries. A Tag-Lane Milkshake daughter, she is out of Brownfield Supersonic Britina lp60 which is VG88 classified.

A small number of Ayrshire heifers topped at £2150 for a heifer giving 33kg sired by Cuthill Towers Roderick from the Stevensons, Stranraer.

A heifer from the Neils of Thornington, led the British Friesian at £1950.
