A spectacular line up of cattle, sheep and horses was on display at New Deer Show, where Blair Duffton lifted the supreme cattle and overall champion of champions title with the black Limousin cross heifer, Truffles.

The 21-month-old, which stood lightweight champion at LiveScot, second at the Highland and supreme beef at Fettercairn, was bought at Carlisle in September and was bred by Messrs Watt, Newnoth.

In the sheep lines, a home-bred Charollais gimmer from Eilidh and Erin Duncan, Clola, Mintlaw, took the red, white and blue sash. A daughter of Logie Durno Valhalla, she is bred from the second prize ewe, a home-bred daughter of Logie Durno Single Malt.

George Skinner, Strathorn Farm Stables, Inverurie, took home the native horse championship in the heavy horse ring with the five-year-old Clydesdale gelding, Collessie King Edward. Bought privately as a yearling from Ronnie Black, he was overall champion at Crathes as well as male champion at Echt.

LEADING awards

Aberdeen-Angus (Judge: C McCombie, Auchencrieve, Knock). Champion and reserve – G and F Willox, Old Meldrum. Supreme was the seven-year-old cow, Cardenwell Blossom. Shown alongside her three-month-old bull calf at foot, by Moncur Fergus, she is a daughter of Burnside Jamie Eric and out of Cardenwell Bracken. Reserve was the two-year-old heifer, Cardenwell Bridget. Another by Moncur Fergus, she is out of Cardenwell Bluebell. Cow, heifer, bull calf – G and F Willox. Heifer calf – J Wilson.

Highland cattle (Judge: J Laing, 7 King Edward Court, Invergordon). Champion – Clackriach fold, Aberdeenshire, with the 10-year-old cow, Ban Righ 4 of Mottistone. She is a daughter of Eoin Mhor 5 of Mottistone, out of Ban Right of Mottistone and was purchased as a three-year-old. She was shown with her bull calf at foot. Reserve – Greaves family, Peterhead with the yearling heifer, Lady Darcy of Ardiffery. She is by Ewan Buidhe of Craigieray and out of Heather 3 of Richmondhill. Cow, bull calf under 12-months-old, three-year-old heifer, two-year-old heifer, calf – Clackriach Fold. Yearling heifer – J and L Fraser and Son.

Cross cattle (Judge: D Fraser, Letham Mains, Nairn). Champion and reserve – B Duffton, Huntly. Supreme was the 21-month-old black Limousin cross heifer, Truffles, which stood lightweight champion at LiveScot and second at the Royal Highland Show. She was bought at Carlisle in September and was bred by Messrs Watt, Newnoth. Reserve was the 15-month-old British Blue cross heifer, Sasha. Bred by Hetty Hutchinson, she was purchased at the Young Farmers’ overwintering competition from Finn Christie, at Thainstone Mart. Two-year-old heifer, yearling heifer, two-year-old bullock, yearling bullock, heifer calf, pair of yearling heifers, YFC heifer, YFC bullock – B Duffton. Heifer in calf or in milk, bullock calf born between Sept 1, 2021 and Dec 31, 2021 – D Watt. Bull calf, heifer calf – B Paterson. Pair of yearling bullocks, beef cow or heifer, novice – S Smith.

Limousin (Judge: S Duncan, Achdregnie, Glenlivet). Champion and reserve – A Ritchie, Tamala, Whiteside. Supreme was the 10-year-old in-calf cow, Brockhurst Howzat, a former Highland Show winner and champion at Angus and Fettercairn. She is by Wilodge Vantastic and out of Brockhurst Bolshoi. Reserve was the 20-month-old heifer, Ritches Remi. She is by Emslie’s Jamieson and out of the champion, Brockhurst Howzat. All classes – A Ritchie.

Simmental (Judge: J Ogston, Inneshewan, Luib). Champion and reserve – E Smith, Bankhead. Supreme was the yearling heifer, Riverdea Luna. She is by Team Highwayman and out of Lopemead Daffodil. Reserve was the yearling heifer, Riverdea Libby. She is a daughter of Boreshead Annabelle and another out of Daffodil. Two-year-old heifer – A Whyte. Yearling heifer – E Smith.

Beef Shorthorn (Judge: J Ogstone). Champion and reserve – R and Kirsty Williams, Upper Tullochbeg, Huntly Supreme was Dunsyre Iona 31, a five-year-old roan Beef Shorthorn cow by Redhill Ferny, out of Dunsyre Iona 5 Ex92. Reserve was the yearling bull, Blackcraig Powerhouse. He is by Alvae Galaxy and out of the day’s champion, Dunsyre Iona. Two-year-old bull and over – C Clark. Yearling bull, cow – R and K Williams. Two-year-old heifer, yearling heifer – G Stephen.

Charolais (Judge: S Duncan). Champion and reserve – J and S Middleton. Supreme was the 17-month-old bull Hollywell Sorrento. He is an AI son of Whitecliff James and out of the home-bred cow, Wollywells Italy. Reserve was the yearling bull, Hollywells Seoirse which is a son of Thornton Fairfax and out of Hollywell Naomi. Both bulls are are destined for United Auctions’ October bull sales. All classes – J and S Middleton.

Cheviot (Judge: F McIntyre). Champion – W and J Brown, Hilton of Clush, New Deer with the three-shear tup, Broomhillbank Am The Man. He was bought in at Lockerbie as a shearling. Reserve – M and S Gall, Home Farm with the April-born ewe lamb, Diane. She is by Belmaduthy Chase and out of a home-bred ewe by Wandylaw Venture. Aged ram, ewe, tup lamb, group – W and J Brown. Gimmer – A Polson. Ewe lamb – M and S Gall.

Suffolk (Judge: S Lorimer). Champion – J Gibb, Cairnton, Fraserburgh with a one-crop ewe. She is by Cairness A-Star and out of the home-bred ewe by Cairnton High Achiever. Reserve – G and F Christie, Newton of Balquhain, Inverurie, with a home-bred gimmer by Howgillfoot Snipper, out of a ewe by Lakeview Under The Radar, that was placed a the Highland. Ewe – J Gibb. Gimmer – F Christie. Tup lamb, ewe lamb – C Paterson.

Ryeland (Judge: J Young, Muirton of Corse, Alford). Champion and reserve – R Aitken, Fetternear Ryelands, Inverurie. Supreme was a Fetternear Yoshie-sired gimmer. She is out of a Michaelchurch-bred bought in ewe and stood second in her class at Echt Show. Reserve was the tup lamb, Fetternear Countryman. He is by Fetternear Aramus and out of a home-bred ewe. All classes – R Aitken.

Texel (Judge: G Howie, Stuartslaw). Champion, reserve and reserve inter-breed – W and K Knox, Mid Haddo. Supreme was a gimmer on her first outing. She is by Hexel De Django and out of a home-bred ewe. Reserve was a two-crop ewe by Hexel Born To Be Wild. Out of a home-bred ewe, she has previously stood first at the National Show at Carlisle, last year. Tup, shearling tup – Newton Farms. Ewe, gimmer, tup lamb, ewe lamb, group – W and K Knox.

AOB MV sheep (Judge: W Willox). Champion and supreme inter-breed – E and E Duncan, Clola, Mintlaw, with a home-bred Charollais gimmer by Logie Durno Valhalla, bred from the second prize ewe, a home-bred daughter of Logie Durno Single Malt. Reserve – D Atkinson, Tap O North Farm with the three-shear Blue Texel ram, Dirty Den. He is sired by a Turbo Blue ram and out of Hackney Yoko. He also stood reserve champion at Echt Show. Aged ram – D Atkinson. Shearling tup, ewe, gimmer, tup lamb – E and E Duncan. Ewe lamb – F Wilkie.

AOB non-MV sheep (Judge: J Shearer, Hillhead of Mornish, Glenlivet). Champion – AK and M Byrnes with a home-bred Dorset ewe. She is out of a Ballytaggart-sired Old What Z4499 ewe and is sired by a Richhill ram. Reserve – G and L Pirie with a Dorset ewe lamb by a Strathbogie-bred ram, out of a home-bred ewe. Aged ram, shearling ram, tup lamb, group – A Leek. Ewe, gimmer – AK and M Byrnes. Ewe lamb – G and L Pirie.

Beltex (Judge: R Machray). Champion – G Ireland, Glenisla, Huntly with a ewe lamb by Heatheryhall Fast and Furious and out of Blackjack Echo Falls-sired ewe. Reserve – F Wilkie, Westhill, with the January-born tup lamb, Whitestone Hell Fire. He is a son of Baileybrooke CR7 and out of a Proctors Eclipse of the Heart-sired dam. Aged tup – Z Rennie. Shearling tup, ewe, tup lamb, group – F Wilkie. Gimmer – F Christie. Ewe lamb – G Ireland.

Bluefaced Leicester (Judge: D MacNiven, Glenfarg). Champion and reserve – J Millican, Newton of Hasseywells. Supreme was a two-crop ewe by L11 Arnfield. She is out of J6 Thortonledell. Reserve was a March-born tup lamb. He is by a McQuistin-bred sire and out of M50 Cottage ewe. All classes – J Millican.

Jacob (Judge: S Robertson, Tomintoul). Champion and reserve – A Christie, Birchfield. Supreme was the January-born twin ewe lamb, Black Betty. She is a daughter of Hope Knockout and out of a Kinloch-bred ewe. Reserve was a tup lamb by Harbell Harper. Out of Adamski Stella, he stood reserve male champion at this year’s Royal Highland Show. Shearling tup, ewe, group – M Milton. Gimmer – J Milton. Tup lamb, ewe lamb – A Christie.

Small minority sheep (Judge: M MacIntosh). Champion and reserve – N and Z Robson, Kairie, Huntly. Supreme was an April-born Welsh Mountain Torwen Badgerface tup lamb. He is backed by Welsh genetics. Reserve was an April-born Welsh Mountain Torwen Badgerface ewe lamb backed by the same genetics as the champion. Tup, ewe – Dr and Mrs JW and L Graham and Thompson. Shearling tup, gimmer, tup lamb, ewe lamb, group – N and Z Robson.

Cross sheep (Judge: SJ Forbes, Dalrechie, Ballindalloch). Champion – J Lowe with a pen of three Cheviot-bred cross sheep. Reserve – W and J Brown, Hilton of Clush with a Suffolk-bred ewe and ewe lamb. Any cross, native cross – J Loww. Mule or Greyface – A Davidson. Continental sire – S Davidson. Native sire – J Sleigh and Sons. Continental most suitable for butcher, cross ewe lambs suitable for butcher _ W and J Brown. Native sire most suitable for butcher – K Moir. Clydesdale (Judge: A Brown). Champion and native champion – G Skinner, Strathorn Farm Stables, Inverurie, with the five-year-old gelding, Collessie King Edward, bought privately as a yearling from Ronnie Black. He was overall champion at Crathes and male champion at Echt Show. Reserve – N Christie, Anguston Clydesdales with a the home-bred yearling filly Anguston Annie. She is by Collessie Highlander and out of Anguston Alisha. Filly – N Christie. Two-year-old/yearling gelding, senior gelding – G Skinner. Young handler – Arradoul Clydesdales.

Shetland pony (Judge: H Wilson). Champion – L Bruce with a two-year-old gelding, Harley of Pinehoulland. On his first outing, he is by Stranduff Gypsy King and out of Elaine of Pinehoulland. Reserve – C Forbes, Duffton with an 11-year-old mare, Lynemore Finesse. She is a daughter of Abbotsbury Court and out of Kinbell Gilia. Senior gelding and over, yearling colt, filly or gelding – Broadleyhill Saddlery. Two/three-year-old gelding or colt – V Bruce. Mare, two or three-year-old filly, coloured pony, group – C Forbes. Senior Shetland – L George.

Highland pony (Judge: J Reid). Champion – L MacDonald, Aboyne with the five-year-old stallion, Isla Malt of Coinach. He is by Prince Platinum of Whitefield and out of Pavlova of Whitefield. Reserve – G Towns with Anya May of Forglen. She was champion at Turriff as a yearling in 2018 and also as a two-year-old in 2019. Senior stallion, mare, foal – S McIntosh. Yeld mare – G and A Towns. Four-year-old gelding – D Martin. Two or three-year-old colt, filly or gelding – M Nash. Ridden – T Jones.
