A FITTING finish to the Belted Galloway Cattle Society's centenary celebrations was a visit to the breed's spiritual home, Mochrum, where Helen Ryman and Chris Stead put on a tremendous display of cattle.

There was stockjudging, with five classes of four animals to judge, and renowned breeder from Romesbeoch, Jim Ross, acting as the master judge. Well-known butcher and breeder of Belties and White Galloway cattle, Tim Oliver, gave a demonstration of different cuts of beef on a live Beltie, followed, appropriately, by an excellent barbeque.

The society is indebted to sponsors for providing the prizes – McVeigh Parker, Carrs Billington, Tarff, Nithsdale Vets, James Smith Fencing, James Gordon Ltd., and Murray Farmcare.
