A flying trade for Beltex rams saw prices peak at 50,000gns and 45,000gns for two ET shearling brothers from Alan Miller and his daughter Ellie's Aberdeenshire-based Lurg flock, with ram lambs to 25,000gns from Herefordshire-based brothers, Jamie and Richard Jerman, Brilley.

Such was the demand for shearlings that no fewer than 12 sold at five-figure prices with Mr Miller's pen of 10 from Miller Farms, Midmar, leading the way to average £15,488 per head. Shearling rams also met a new record high, averaging £1865 - up a massive £365 on last year's breed high.

Dearest at 50,000gns was Mr Miller's pen leader, Lurg Goliath ET, the overall champion at the pre-sale show and reserve winner at the National Show at Perth. Notably, he is the result of a flush from the champion winner at the Scottish National Show and several other events in the North-east this year – Sinclair's Daisy ET. Goliath sold from a 20,000gns kick off bid, in a four-way split for 50,000gns to Kevin Buckles and sons Jack and Tom, Buckles and Broxty flocks; Neale and Janet McQuistin, Airyolland, New Luce; James McGarva of the Horseclose flock from Lockerbie, and young Rafe Cartmen, Skipton.

Minutes later Goliath's full ET brother, Lurg Grand Slam which stood second in his class at the Royal Highland, made 45,000gns to Gary Beacom, of the Lakeview flock from Northern Ireland, who bought two-thirds and Brian Mathews, Quarrymount, Co Offaly, who purchased the remaining third.

Grant Maxwell and his daughter, Katy, Faughhill, Melrose, also produced a personal best, taking 30,000gns for Faughhill Godfather, a natural born shearling by the privately purchased Heatheryhall Fireman Sam, out of Faughhill Dana. He sold in a three-way split to Jim Young, Muirton, Ross and Kirsty William, Tullochbeg and Bruce and Colin Mair, Aviemore.

Leading the ram lamb trade at 25,000gns was Brilley Hulk from brothers Jamie and Richard Jerman, Herefordshire. Their Brilley Hulk ET, is bred from Hackney Dior and sired by Ardstewart Fred Flintstone. Buying back some of their own genetics, Hulk was knocked down to Wade and Alison McCrabbe, Raphoe, Lifford, Co Donegal.

Just behind, on 20,000gns, Liam and Jack Swinnerton, sold Lipley Hugo Boss ET, also by Arstewart Fred Flintstone, but bred from Woodies Eye Candy, to Charlie Boden and daughter, Rosie, of the Sportsmans flock from Stockport, Cheshire.

Rosie also bought the one of the two top priced gimmers at 3500gns. This was Dafydd Owen's Smart Ass Girlfriend ET, from Rowen, Conwy, the inter-breed lowland and reserve overall inter-breed champion at Llanrwst Show. She is by Clary Dumfries ET, and bred from Smart Ass Delilah.

Also making 3500gns was Wannop's Godess ET, from Wannops Farms, Morecambe, Lancs. A full brother to 9000gns ram lamb sold last year, she is by Brothertoft Fynley and bred from Dean Brow Classy ET. The buyer was A Wright, Boston.

Overall, 188 gimmers averaged £674.68 (-£307.28 for 66 fewer sold); 131 ram lambs at £2044.29 (+£378.43 for 16 fewer sold); 575 shearling rams, £1865.00 (+£365.00 for 94 fewer sold).
