Mull abattoir is willing to pay up to £38,000 for the right trained butcher and slaughterman who can keep the facility going.
The abattoir faces closure if new staff are not found after the two resident employees left at the end of August. Despite some early interest in the post the volunteer board are still searching for staff to keep the slaughterhouse open.

Chairman of the Mull abattoir, Flora Corbett, said: “We have had our last kill and we are finishing up the butchery. We have had some interested and there will be someone out there. A lot of people see the advert and have no idea of the location and what may be needed to adapt to island life. There is accommodation available and it a big opportunity for someone to come and put their own mark on the job.”
The abattoir is looking to fill two salaried positions with a licensed slaughterman with butcher skills needed plus an additional butcher for cutting up. The facility kills once a week, with 230 farmers and crofters on the books supplying animals. Currently 60-70% of the animals slaughtered come from the mainland, with a full diary of kills until Christmas for the new recruits. Anyone interested in applying should contact Flora on 07789847530
