Final preparations are well under-way for Scotland’s Beef Event to be held on Tuesday, June 6.

The event, hosted on 5000-acre Dalswinton Estate, will be officially opened by Fergus Ewing MSP, former Cabinet Secretary for Rural Economy.

Starting at 9am, one of the highlights of the day will be the three Thought Leadership seminars, sponsored by Virgin Money, featuring industry experts discussing future farm support as well as sustainable farming, and the Galbraith-sponsored Speakers Corner will give further insight into the beef industry.

Head of agriculture at Virgin Money, Brian Richardson, said: “Agriculture and particularly the beef sector is needing to do a lot of thinking in order to understand how they are going to work towards reducing their carbon footprint. Virgin Money is delighted to be supporting the Thought Leadership programme at the event. It is through work like this that we will keep Scottish Beef positioned as a world leader.”

The event will welcome 18 cattle breed societies as well as more than 100 trade stands, ensuring there will be something to interest everyone.

Organisers say the farm tours showcasing the 550-head suckler herd are expected to be popular as are the demonstrations that will take place throughout the day.

Beef event chairman Scott Henderson said: “2023 feels like a critical moment for the beef sector. We are on the one hand facing the issue of security of food supply, while also tackling the dual crisis of climate change and biodiversity loss.

“On top of this the subsidy regime is due to change in 2026. There is a lot to discuss.”
