The incident happened near the Lyme Regis roundabout by the A3052 just after 8 am when police were alerted to the trailer which was in a dangerous position on the road after receiving a 999 call.

Officers attended to the stranded cows and proceeded to direct traffic whilst a tractor came to recover the farmyard animals.

The cows were unharmed and there were no injuries to any people or damage to any vehicles.

Normal traffic resumed at around 9.15 am and police left the scene.
