HUMZA Yousaf will hold a press conference amid mounting pressure to quit as First Minister.

The First Minister is set to announce his resignation after a chaotic few days following his termination of the SNP’s power-sharing deal with the Scottish Greens.

He will address the country from Bute House, his official residence in Edinburgh at midday.

It will not be livestreamed, the Scottish Government has confirmed, but the event will be broadcast live on BBC News.

Yousaf sent his government into meltdown on Thursday when he sacked Green ministers Lorna Slater and Patrick Harvie, terminating the Bute House Agreement which gave him a working majority.

Party members had been considering whether they wanted to stay in government after a string of controversies including the council tax freeze and the Scottish Government ditching a key climate target.

The First Minister’s announcement comes amid ferocious pressure to step down.

He faced two separate bids – one from the Tories and one from Labour – attempting to force him out of office.
