SIX FINALISTS have been named in the Scottish Association of Young Farmers new ‘Young Farmer of the Year’ competition.

Qualifying rounds involving challenges spread across all aspects of agriculture – arable, dairy, beef and sheep, machinery and business – were held earlier this month at Stirling Caledonian Market, from which emerged, in no particular order: Douglas Frame of Carluke YFC; David Mitchell of Biggar YFC; Scott Bourman of Carluke YFC; David Comrie of Bankfoot JAC; Andrew Neilson of Avondale YFC; and Robert Campbell of Crossroads YFC.

National chairman Suzie Dunn commented: "SAYFC help to grow and nurture the farmers of the future, and this is an amazing competition and opportunity to demonstrate the skills already gained by such young individuals."

The overall winner, who will receive £1000 cash, a place at The Oxford Farm Conference and use of an ATV for a year, will be announced at the Royal Bank of Scotland's dinner, on the Friday of this year's Royal Highland show.
