THERE are a few new faces in the East Region committee for the coming year as David Lawrie stepped down at the recent agm, held at Newbridge Bowling Club.

David kicked off proceedings with the presentation of a cheque for £2000 to the Rob Stephenson Trust, the chosen East Region charity for 2017/2018.

Taking on the roles of chairman and vice chairman were two Perthshire members; Michael Rattray as chair and Ewan Smith as vice.

"It has been a real honour to take on the role of East chairman for 2017/18, something which I never thought possible when I joined 12 years ago," said David of his role.

"It has been a pleasure watching the East Region gain more presence in National events over the year, reinforcing the fact that clubs are going from strength to strength. We have seen an increase in participation from smaller clubs and more isolated clubs, which I hope continues to grow over the following years.

"I would like to thank the East committee for all the invaluable help and support you have provided me with over my year as chair; the majority of events would not be possible without you. So get stuck in, communicate and support members, and I can guarantee you will get double back what you put in!"

Progressing through office bearer roles from club chairman, to district treasurer, and straight to East chairman, there is no doubt Michael Rattray will put maximum effort into his new role. Being a member of Strathearn JAC for more 12 years, Michael (25) has had a heavy presence in not only district but regional and National events also, leading the club to success on countless occasions. Ewan Smith, from Bankfoot JAC, was voted on as vice having taken on the role of club chairman for the past two years, where he led the club through successes such as winning the bale art competition as well as National speechmaking in February.

The regional participation and recruitment results for the past year were also announced, where Perth JAC won the recruitment drive with 31.58%. In second with 15.91% was Brechin JAC while Teviotdale JAC was third with 14.81%.

Strathearn JAC headed up the regional participation with 73 points, followed by Forfar JAC with 70 and Kinross JAC with 63.
