THERE was a record entry at the East Region Ready Steady Country Cooks competition at Dunfermline High School, on Tuesday, when all five districts were represented by two club members apiece.

With members eager to peek into the mystery bag of ingredients, the competition allowed 10 minutes preparation time for members to plan their meal before cooking up a storm.

Ingredients included Specially Selected Pork medallions, apples, potatoes, couscous, mushrooms, banana, smoked cheese and filo pastry, as well as a few staple store cupboard ingredients.

Judges Hazel Baxter and June Geyer were highly impressed with the standard of culinary skills and presentation, commenting: “We weren’t expecting such impressive courses from the few ingredients they were given and the limited time they had. Everyone involved should be chuffed with themselves.”

Marking the fourth year running the Angus Tayside district has made it through to the final, it was Brechin YFC that secured the top spot with 82 points followed by Bell Baxter ADS in second with 79 and Reston JAC in third with 78.
