SAYFC North Region has once again held its annual senior speechmaking elimination in Kemnay Church Centre, Kemnay.

Three teams from East Aberdeenshire District competed on the day, and were judged by Isobel Leith, Muriel Cantlay and Alan Cumming – all past speechmaking winners at regional and national level. The format of the competition this year was a team of chairman, speaker and vote of thanks from each of the competing clubs.

The winning team was Turriff and District JAC, comprising of chairman, Murray Stephen and speaker Elaine Duguid. Their vote of thanks was delivered by Annabel Rennie and the team gained a total of 97 points out of a possible 120.

Second place went to Udny JAC’s purple team with 92 points. This team was chaired by Michelle Stephen, their speaker was Amy Reid and their vote of thanks was given by Beth Massie.

In third place were Udny’s blue team, where Rhea Work acted as chairperson, Andrew Frank as speaker and Mover Lewis Gallier gave the vote of thanks. They finished with a score of 78.5 points.

Individual prizes were also awarded, with best chairman out with the winning team being given to Michelle Stephen from the Udny purple team and the best speaker out with the winning team, being awarded to Amy Reid, also of the Udny purple team. Best vote of thanks out with the winning team went to Lewis Gallier, appearing in the Udny blue team.

All teams now go forward to represent the North Region at the national finals in Inverness.
